I checked in via the mobile app/site today (using my VFF login), and when adding the boarding pass to my Passbook was confronted by  a "RED" boarding pass. Having never seen one of these before, I was somewhat perplexed.

Fortunately though, even as a newly demoted 'RED' member (really WP), I could still access the BNE Virgin Lounge via the card reader, and the MEL lounge on arrival. The lounge angel in MEL said she couldn't make any changes to the leg just flown, but checked my return and my VFF number was properly recorded. She said quite a few people today had reported the same problem.

Now to wait and see what my return boarding pass comes up with, and how/if the points are posted....

I think someone else just recently mentioned the same thing. Maybe another Passbook issue?

No - not just a Passbook problem. The real boarding pass also missed my VFF number as well. I'll bet the FA greeting on the plane wondered how a RED scored 3F!!

your boarding pass printed by the gate staff says RED 123564231 or has no FFN details on it ?

No frequent flyer details at all - even though I accessed on-line checkin via my Velocity FFN; also I had previously checked the booking on line (all looked OK) and also had pre-selected (over the phone) Row 3 as a WP.

Some sort of computer glitch obviously.

That may be worth chasing up with them though.

I just checked my printed BP from last Saturday (printed at BNE valet desk) and it definitely has the status printed on it, so it's not a wide spread issue.

Maybe a silly question, but what is the abbreviation WP?

I have the same issue. I checked in for tomorrow morning's flight and the boarding pass was red in Passbook. I then decided to print my boarding pass from the VA website and 'Loyalty Number' states 'INVLD NAME FOR ACCT' instead of 'GOLD'. I rang VA today and they said it was definitely a computer glitch, however all should be ok when accessing the lounge and boarding the plane.

Last week flying PHE-PER when I was doing mobile checkin it showed me as platinum but then my boarding pass (in safari and in passbook) showed as a gold.
When I got to the airport the boarding pass printed as gold and my points credited as a gold instead of platinum.

I got seat 2A on the E190 and it was only a thousand or so points difference between the 75% and 100% points bonus so it didn't seem the effort trying to chase up.

If it was me, I'd be chasing it up. Sometimes a few thousand points are the difference between having enough points to make a reward booking, or having to wait a little longer for additional activity to roll through

Things are improving slowly. I now have a WP boarding pass in my Iphone passbook for my return journey MEL-BNE, but can only take 1 x23kg of checked luggage with me (vs the WP entitlement of 3 x 23kg). Fortunately the checked luggage problem is somewhat academic.

As I suspected might occur, no points or status credits were automatically posted for my RED flight. Thanks to Dean from VFF for promptly following this up (while investigating the core glitch). All points now posted.

Got the same INVLD message on my BP on 21 June. I checked in online snd printed BP. At airport I noticed the error message so reprinted BP at kiosk, this time no INVLD message but no Gold status either.
Went to lounge, agent reprinted and gold showed. He mentioned he had seen this error a number of times, and likely points would not be processed if BP not reissued.

Just thought I'd let you my experience before and after my flight. I accessed the lounge and the lovely ladies at the desk mentioned that they had to reprint my boarding pass to ensure that the error under 'Loyalty Number' on my original boarding pass was corrected so that I didn't miss out on earning points and status credits for the flight. The new boarding pass stated 'GOLD' and I ended up receiving points and status credits a few days later!
