Which cards have the best/most frequent bonus point promotions for existing customers (so not talking about sign up bonuses)? EG the DJs AMEX had the 4000pt bonus in march for making 20 transactions >$10.

Are there any ways (eg spending patterns) that will help induce these sorts of offers?

I think credit card companies are being very cautious at the moment with general bonus points promotions.

It may vary from person to person, but I've had double points on Virgin Money Flyer Card three times, the Woolworths EDR CC has had some double point promotions for spending within the Wooloworths group.
American Express have had a few, but nothing recently.
Other cards have had the odd promotion here and there.

Some of the best bonus points can be had with Amex MR...

I've had thousands of points through Hotelclub (you do need to compare prices and make sure it is competitive however) and also now through the Amex Travel site.

Citi is good for restaurants and hotels...

Maybe not what you were originally thinking, however there are points out there if you spend at the applicable merchants

Two hotel club bookings at approx 400 dollars each (rate similar to best I could find on meta search sites) for later this year should get me an extra 8k MR. Club Carlson have announced 20% off Asia PAC hotels booked through their website for next few months so maybe that would have been better but that wasn't announced when I made my booking.

If you have the Platinum Charge make sure you get your complimentary status with Club Carlson!
