Cannot see what is in this for Virgin? In order to email their entire data base.

Etihad seen to be very much second tier partners now.

Have to book via Etihad or a TA, and fly on Etihad metal to maybe win 1 of 3 prizes. ZERO bucks to Virgin.

Curious.

We won return fights to Abu Dhabi on Etihad a couple of months back via a similar comp, free upgraded Rooms at Conrad Hilton, and all activities and tours etc, and never bothered to take them! :D

Incorrect.

As per the terms, one of the requirements is that the booking has to have the Velocity FF number. So flying on Etihad means that Etihad have to pay Velocity for the points for every entrant.

But regardless. The real point of the competition can also be deduced. The email states that the prize is thanks to Etihad. Which makes it pretty obvious. Etihad still want to be seen as a Virgin partner, despite Qatar's pending arrival. And if they happen to spoil some revenue bookings from Qatar, well that's all good too.

And obviously for Velocity, they're happy to facilitate this as it makes it a more attractive progam to its customers to be giving out big prizes for many of their members. Even if they happen to be beneath you.

That’s a pity & a missed opportunity for others that would have.

Although Etihad are now listed as a "secondary" partner of Virgin Australia on the Airline partners page, I do have to admire their fighting spirit to remain relevant in VFF in spite of the incoming arrival of their nearby competitor Qatar as the newest major partner of VA.

Etihad Airways has set up again a page for Velocity Frequent Flyers on their Australian website pointing out benefits while flying EY.

EY / VA

2 issues :

- The flight selection out of Brisbane is completely bugged and never lets you choose a destination city.
- Codeshares flights as of 1 JAN 2023 are not available anymore on VA-operated services. Unsure what is happening there - would someone have more information?

It also seems that in less than 20h, a new event will be hosted by Etihad.
It seems to be the next step in their sustainable journey

Etihad Event
