Hi all, just after a bit of advice on finalising 2 x OneWorld Explorers I just booked using QFF points. :)

Plan was to build up an itinerary on the OneWorld RTW planner, then see how much it was decimated by award availability. To my pleasant surprise, almost every single flight was available! Except LAX-SYD, even though I'm 11 months out (school holidays, d'oh). Requested a seat be made available (as a Plat) so fingers crossed. The next available option was 10 days later, even returning via AKL!

(The only other change was to the PVG-HKG-DXB flights below, but given I was apparently lucky to get a HKG-DXB on points, I'm not too fussed.)

Final routing is:
SYD-PVG(stop)-HKG-DXB(stop)-LHR(stop)-MUC(stop)/TXL-MAD-BCN(stop)-HEL(stop)-JFK(stop)-LAX-SYD.

Anyway, onto the point of this post. The routing is fine, except I'm two stopovers over the 5 stopover limit. The QFF agent (Michael, VERY helpful!) suggested he'll reserve all of them, and tomorrow I should let them know which two flights I want to dump.

LHR-MUC is a logical one, as it's only 8,000pts on BA. The second one will be either TXL(or somewhere else in Germany)-BCN, or BCN-HEL.

I'm about to go and search for cheap flights (both are 20,000pts so I'd like to see what paid options there are), but if anyone has any recommendations, I'm all ears. The flight to BCN doesn't have to be from TXL, we'll have a car in Germany so could really fly from anywhere to BCN.

Would really appreciate any advice!

Cheers,
- Febs.

$241AUD inc taxes (each) for BCN-HEL on AY, and I get to keep it all on OneWorld. Not too bad. Approximately $1,500AUD for the same flight on Iberia, ouch!!

$241 or 20,000pts...probably best just to pay for it, although I do like the flexibility with award bookings.

That's confusing! What you are actually booking are two "35,000 mile" "oneworld" Awards.

(oneworld "Explorers" do not have specific stopover limits (except in continent of origin).

Hmm, he called them OneWorld Explorers. I always thought they were "Award Explorers".

What I booked is the 140,000pt (in Y) award though, right?

Yep!

In the T&C's QFF refer to them as "oneworld Award"s.

See section 14.5 ...

As for your problem, maybe you could fly DXB-LHR-MUC with no stop. That will save APD of £10 - it's not that hard to find a discounted fare back to London to suit your travels.

I have always refer to them as a Oneworld RTW award....

... if you routing is ATW then that's accurate; but the QFF oneworld award can be a circle (MEL-HKG-NRT-LAX-MEL) or return (SYD-HKG-LHR-HKG-SYD) if desired.

Thanks guys, appreciate it.

Ended up dumping the LHR-MUC (will do this separately on points for 8,000 each) and BCN-HEL (will probably buy this through Finnair for $241AUD each including taxes).

(The LHR stopover is a big one, including driving up to Scotland and back, so wasn't too keen on flying to Munich then straight back to LHR.)

All up about $1,100 and 148,000pts each. :)

Cheers,

Oh, and they ended up finding us two seats on QF108 JFK-LAX-SYD. Thank goodness for WP!
