Need an overnight at Auckland airport and thought I'd make it easy for the family by staying at the Novotel. Rates seem pretty high for NZ and for 2 adults I get A$185 incl breakfast for 2 or $165 without breakfast (I think both are prepaid). But if I only book for 1 adult the rate including breakfast is $162. Now we probably don't even need breakfast but we could think about having breakfast for 1 and maybe just a coffee for the other. So could I just book this rate for 1 adult (maybe being a Platinum member as everyone else might help) but stay with my wife (I know at Hiltons and Intercontis I only ever book rooms for 1 person and my partner stays free at the same rate).

Shouldn't be a problem if you are discrete about the second guest.

Check in solo and don't go for breakfast (or only one of you).

So, officially my partner/spouse does not stay free then at Accor hotels? Real shame. Not sure how I can hide my wife and a 1yr old at check-in....well, actually I only need to hide my wife as the little one doesn't really count anyway.

In all seriosness you could probably check in together anyway - it really depends on the person on the other side of the counter.

Normally, they are not interested, but now and again you may find someone who checks the booking with something more than a cursory look.

I would have thought breakfast is for 2 - not a separate price for 1. I've found a few times on accorhotels.com that if you change the number of people it can change the price but if you look at the terms of the rate it will say that breakfast is for 2 adults and kids eat free or something similar.

I had the issue the other week in Sydney, booking for my wife and 2 kids. Terms said kids sleep (and eat) for free but if I included 2 kids in the booking it charged another $10 for the room so just changed it back to 1 child. No issues.

just a glitch in their usually useless website
