Booking a rental car through the Qantas website?

Hello,

As an inexperienced renter, I am seeking advice booking an overseas car hire through Qantas.com as opposed to directly through websites of the main rental car companies.

In the past I have booked through Avis and Hertz directly as I found the booking process on their websites clearly shows what inclusions, additional costs and add-ons are available with the hire - ie. Third Party coverage, roadside assistance etc - compared to the Qantas website's booking process which I find to be somewhat vague with these details.

For peace of mind I would book through the main companies websites, however for an upcoming trip to America I am finding that the prices quoted through the Qantas website will save me around $100AU for the 3 separate rentals I require during my trip using both Budget and Avis.

It seems GPS/Sat Nav hire is also much cheaper when booking through the Qantas website.

Have other members here had good experiences when booking through Qantas.com; or is it advised to book through the main companies directly in the rare event of car theft or accident during my hire?
Cheers.

I've used the Qantas website several times for domestic hire but kept getting errors when I was trying to book in the UK earlier this year. It was substantially cheaper than I could get through other aggregators so I rang Qantas and their suggestion was try another browser or wait until the following day so no luck. The good thing is that you can cancel without charge

I have preferred status with Avis, similar status with Hertz and Europcar although the terminology slips my mind.
However I have often found the prices available through the Qantas website to be significantly cheaper.
Especially when I have hired a car in France. I have no experience of the US market.
The rates are directly comparable as the add on insurance is usually an option to pay for at time of collection anyway.
If you are careful you should be able to book a car with inbuilt GPS making that additional cost unnecessary.
However I do always check the car hire websites directly as Qantas is not always cheaper - as a general rule it seems cheaper well in advance but may be more expensive closer to the pick up date.
A careful examination of the direct website can also help you select a car with the features you want (such as GPS).
The Qantas site can be a little short on detail.
