If I book an Any Seat Award ticket using minimum points and cash that is non refundable and I wish to cancel it, what happens to the points? I realise I may lose the cash or be able to use it as a credit against a future flight but I would not like to lose the points.

What are the pros and cons of booking an Any Seat Award or a Classic Award if the points needed are the same? This will be for a long haul flight and be in PE or Business. Thank you for any help you can give me. I have always booked Classic Awards but after reading this forum I realise that there may be another alternative as I can book 353 days out for the flight.

Any seat awards are following the rules of the airfare you book, so in a lot of cases there will be a penalty just like there is with classic awards, you need to click on the airfare rules at the time of booking to work out what that will be.

One thing to watch out for is that if you cancel an ASA online it will convert it to a voucher with a (fairly pitiful) cash value. If you actually want the points back, and your fare is refundable (a JASA, for example) you need to call them to cancel it over the phone.

Good point, and please check the airfare rules even if its a JASA or FASA, particularly ex Europe

Note a Business Flexi ex UK has a GBP200 stick while a First saver is not much of a saver if you have to cancel as there are no refunds!
