So, I am playing with flight options for a planned trip to Sweden. My preference was to fly SQ and book through VA website. I wanted to have a couple of stopover points for a day or two in a couple of different places, so was looking at Multi-city booking. However, the VA website is not very flexible about allowing me multi city booking with overseas options I want...I can get the first leg to work BNE-SIN, but then the departure point for the next leg won't let me select SIN.

So, am I able to make the booking on the SQ site and still earn VA SCs, or does the booking have to be done on VAs site?

You can still earn SCs just put your VA number in and it will be fine. I've just booked on SQ instead of VA site as it's just atrocious to book anything on.

As hummel said, yes you will earn VA SCs so no problem there - just be aware that none of the flights will count as eligible sectors if they are booked through SQ.

We flew to Sweden recently with SQ - PER-SIN-FRA-ARN return. We booked the flights on one itinerary through SQ and earned VA SCs on all flights except FRA-ARN and ARN-FRA as those flights were SQ codeshares operated by Lufthansa.

Ok, that's fine..Not so much concerned with sectors. How did you go with preselecting seats when booking via SQ...there was another thread where people were having issues with that, and the solutions seemed somewhat complex for a noob like me!

Actually, scratch that...I just tried a dummy booking and it let me select seats on the SQ site. So, all good I think...just need to finalise a couple of things then full steam ahead with holiday bookings!

We had no problem preselecting seats, I did it during the booking process and there was a good selection of seats showing. As we were flying economy (YUK!! haven't done long haul economy for a few years - and after the trip, now I remember why LOL) we wanted exit row seats for the long haul flights, and I was able to book those for the outgoing flight SIN-FRA but none were available for the return FRA-SIN leg, which was disappointing. However after completing the booking, I went on to the SQ website to view the booking (just to make sure everything was showing correctly) and just thought I'd check the FRA-SIN seat availability and lo and behold, the exit row seats were available! This was only about half an hour after I'd made the booking, so not sure why the seats were showing as blocked when I booked but available 30 minutes later - in any case, I snapped those up and put the payment through.

That's another thing to be aware of - you must book directly with SQ if you want to select "Preferred Seats" (which of course you have to pay extra for, but worth every cent if you're in economy) - if you book through the VA website, you're not eligible to purchase any of the Preferred Seats, including exit rows.
