Hi All,

Are there any catches/tips/tricks to booking one-way award seats with QF? I've searched the forums already, but couldn't find anything definitive for QF.

Assume immigration at the destination is fine with it; I'm just wondering if I'll encounter issues with the airline (booking the ticket or otherwise)? I searched for one-way award flights on the QF website and it all seemed fine, but I don't yet have the points to go all the way.

One of my novice realisations was that while a one-way ticket often costs just as much as a return ticket if using cash, it's only half as much to use points.

Many thanks in advance.

Oneway booking are generally one of the more value effective ways to burn QFF points.

The only issue you may have is if you have separate bookings on 2 different airlines then you will have to show the airline your different tickets which means you may not be able to online check in if it were available.

It's just another plane ticket so shouldn't have any dramas.

While you may know immigration will be fine with it at the other end, you may need to convince the airline it will be fine (at check-in etc). Shouldn't be a drama assuming you have the correct passport or visa or whatever is required.

As serfty noted - it is one of the better uses of QF points when you have to be somewhere to start a ticket or move to live etc.

No issues at all,

Just carry with you a printed copy of your tickets to prove you really are leaving the country again, and there is no way immi will have a problem.

I did it last year to get my first J (and skybed) experience...

.

Just that some countries may require proff of onward travel, which may not be a flight of course.

My last Thailand Award I had a OW, MEL to Bankok and then from SIN to MEL with QF.

I had bought some $1 flights on the then newly launched Tiger Aiways from coughet to Singapore.

So no problems, though IIRC no one on this trip asked about proof of onward travel.

However years before that I almost came unstuck:
I had redeemed with Ansett 5 tickets MEL to Cairo return with a stopover in SIN. As it turned out luckily with SQ as Ansett went belly up two weeks after redeeming!!!!

As it wasa 10 week trip in total we had allowed 2.5 weeks at the end to spend in Asia.

Naively after landing in SIN I just bought cheap set of 5 oneway tickets to coughet as I knew that then that tickets were cheaper on the return than buying two way to start with.

All was good till I went to check in, but SQ refused to let me check in as I did not havea return ticket!!!!!!!! Fortunately after considerably arguing and discussion they let us fly as I arged that as I had 5 tickets on SIN to MEL 2.5 weeks latter that that should be sufficient proff of onward travel and that I intended to come back overland and so did not have a flight ticket (white lie as I always intended to fly back!!).
