just wondering how long does it take take money off your cc? i feel strange that i made a booking last Thursday, and CC is still the same. also i cant upgrade my ticket in my bookings as it says contact travel advisor.... and when i click on that.... a pop up explains several possible reasons and i assume its coz the ticket has not been paid for as my cc has not been deducted.

Anyone experience this before?

I would expect it to be processed by tomorrow. If not I would ring and check if concerned.

Thanks m8, i wasn't going to bother ringing if it was a regular occurrence. i have had a bad history on being on hold for a long time before speaking to anyone.

Can i assume upgrade waiting list is first in first served basically? say 10 people click the upgrade button, on the day, only 5 seats available. would it be the 1st 5 to click to get? or even worse, if its based on status, then i probably shouldn't even bother haha.

Always bother as sometimes you get a surprise.

Often if a reservation, especially international, is a long time in advance, it can take several weeks or months for the booking to be ticketed.

As posted, if you need it to be ticketed for a specific reason, do call about it.

I've heard of it happening plenty of times, mainly due to credit card declining which could be for a number of reasons eg entering the incorrect expiry date or cc number entered when making the booking.

Generally each booking I've done on www.qantas.com I have received the itinerary the same day which shows the eticket numbers on it. This includes international flights booked several months in advance.

If you can't upgrade your booking it's a fair indication that the ticket has not yet been issued so call the airline asap.

Like above I would call the airline asap to check that payment details have been entered correctly.

Have you entered all your passport details & done the ESTA. It's possible the airline wants this info before they issue the ticket. I seem to remember reading something about this elsewhere on AFF.

you are absolutely right, i think.

I have put in my info however the status is still the same. Put the info in Friday so i guess maybe the reason for delay. Would ESTA info cause any problems? not like they will check before issuing ticket right? its my problem once i arrive if i dont have my ESTA issues sorted? I have a current one anyway as they last two years i believe.

Definitely is the airlines problem too. The USA is very particular about this and you may not even get on board unless secure flight data is in the system at 72 hours before the flight.
And yes some airlines simply won't issue a ticket without it.

It is the airlines issue, as they are the ones who have to send you back and pay the fine if you are denied entry to the US (and Australia) due to not having the correct entry documents.

A lack of ESTA could be an issue for the airline but it is not the airline's issue. The airline has no record of your ESTA details and nor do they ask for it. There is nothing to stop an Australian from not using the US's visa waiver program and instead using another process to enter the US.

What the airlines may require in advance is the Advanced Passenger Information Something (APIS) which is name, gender, date of birth, US address details and redress number (I think that's all) but not any reference to ESTA.

This may be the case, However, I can assure you it will be very difficult getting checked-in if you cannot satisfy the Airline Staff/Agents that you have the appropriate documentation/admission rights.

There is two different things now. Secure flight Passenger Data- Name as per passport including middle name, dob, gender, redress number if any. You basically need to have this when you make a reservation, and most airlines wont issue tickets without it. The APIS includes passport details as well and this needs to be entered during check-in, but most airlines collect it immediately upon booking, by collecting APIS they have also covered the Secureflight program.

It is true neither of these things include ESTA data, however when you check in the system will know whether you have an ESTA or not.

ESTA is used for short term visitor visas, so if you are travelling to the US to work over the longer term or are a citizen of a non-approved ESTA country then you will not have an ESTA. You may instead be intending to cross the border with a visa or apply for asylum or...? ESTAs are not the only method used to enter the US, the check-in agent (or the system?) may also look for green cards, or other forms of visa for the US.

do you guys know if you need a tourist card for PTY if just going to be there for a few hours ... in the airport for different legs, not transit....

Thanks m8, i couldnt get the link to work at the vital part where its supposed to list which countries need visa or tourist card or not.

I have already read from several websites, and the general info is you need a tourist card which can be purchased. But as i am doing a SC run, i was wondering if i even need to go through customs, collect my luggage, then immediately check in again as it is a different leg of my 6 leg flight (the u turn point). And i gather if i have to go through customs then i will need to arrange a tourist card.

Is that your understanding as well?

It depends. If you can get your bags checked through at the start of the first flight then you won't need to go through customs etc. They may not be able to print a boarding card for the second flight but there'll be a transfer desk in the airport where you can get that, or at the gate. Or, if you are going back to where you came from, leave your bags there in a locker and avoid the hassle. Then you won't need to go through it all and can just hang out in the terminal... unless you enjoy customs, immigration, security searches...

yea thats a great idea. The locker idea is pretty good. didn't think of that. Think i will do that. Thanks a million!!!
