There is so much usefull information on AFF and so many informative posts so like Flashback says, "He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes....." so let me be the fool and ask: Is there an easy way to bookmark a post that I find informative or interesting :?:

I use IE if that is on any help.

Thread Tools, Subscribe.

You can then return to your subscribed posts here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/subscription.php

Thank you for your prompy reply DeKa but unfortunately it does not tell me what I want to know.
I already subscribe to certain threads using the method you suggest, but what do I do to actually mark a post within a thread?
For example if your post #2 was something I wanted to come back to, how can I book mark it?
Some threads go for hundreads of pages which is a lot to look through.

The other way is to click on "blog this post" and save the blog as a draft rather than actually publishing it. Then you have a list of unpublished blogs which are effectively a capture of posts.

Actually, I take it back, I don't encourage this method as it creates a mess and is difficult to remove.

With Firefox you click on the Gold Star (

) in the URL bar and a link is saved into "Unsorted Bookmarks" from where you can re-file (Say under something like "AFF Links")

But do post numbers change (and their subsequent links) when mods delete posts from Threads?
No!

e.g. this is post #855323

It's URL is http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/your-questions/bookmarking-posts-51949.html#post855323

(thread 51949, post 855323).

But if this thread, or that post was merged into another thread, the link would no longer work ;)

Deleting or moving or merging should all be part of the same question.

Yeah, I guess that's what I was getting at by my post, which possibly used specific words which limited a broader meaning and interpretation. To use some database parlance, it would seem that a link to a thread post does not have persistence. That is, it can vary over time, as a result of one or more actions (and samh004 highlights some of these further possibilities). So if I wanted to bookmark a specific post (and there are some gems of information in sometimes innocuous locations in the midst of potential large and long threads, and sometimes the gem of information has been posted by someone in a thread sometimes even unrelated to the topic...), then there is no guarantee that the link will persist over time.

Thus my interest in this thread: like the OP poses, as I'm reading some threads, I'd love to be able to mark a specific post for future reference.

But if this thread, or that post was merged into another thread, the link would no longer work ;)
In any case, this is still incorrect as the link still resolves based on the post #, even if in a different thread.

I moved the post linked in the previous thread to illustrate this :D
