Flight DJ 4161 Perth to Denpasar on 2 April. Requested forward or rear seats (but definitely not in the middle of the plane), was allocated row 8 - which was fine.

At the boarding gate were re-allocated seats in row 20, not happy! Upon boarding my husband requested that we be allowed to move after take-off and the FA said she would come and get us. Then, before take-off the Captain (Craig Meldrum I think his name was) appeared and said he had overheard our request and would we like to follow him forward....he then seated us in the PE seats in Row 2!! Needless to say we were delighted at the attitude and service of this Captain and his crew, well done to all ..... we are very satisfied customers!

The the captain moved you - weird!

Well docjames the flight was actually only about 1/3 full so they re-allocated a lot of people to 'balance' the plane ....?? - but we must have been the only ones who complained. We also received a bottle of wine each, and the packet of biscuits we requested, for free - I had my credit card at the ready but it was brushed aside with a smile by the FA. Brilliant - and a great start to our holiday, (just as well as it has rather gone downhill since - it has rained nearly every day) :(

Are you by any chance a Velocity Gold, or frequently mistaken for SRB?

I think that these kind of little gestures make such a difference - and you see them happening all the time on DJ of late, though I admit I haven't seen it from a Captain!

Perhaps DJ staff (or perhaps even the Capt's family/friends) were the one who were put into your seats, hence his guilty conscience coming into play.

Whatever the reason - that's a nice thing to hear :)

Exactly what I thought

I don't doubt for a minute that if the plane was only one third full they would have wanted to block forward rows for weight and balance reasons.

DJ are not the only 737 operator to do this. Quite often on QF when the flights aren't full they will block certain seats in rows 4 - 12. In a lot of cases once the plane has taken off & you can move about the cabin you're permitted to change seats anyway.

Surely if the Captain had friends or family onboard wouldn't they be sitting in premium economy to begin with? It doesn't make any sense to me to move them into row 8 from wherever they were sitting as it wouldn't be any different to any other economy seat on the aircraft.

I don't think the Captain should have a 'guilty conscience' for operating the aircraft in a safe & legal manner. I'd say he's overheard the conversation between the passengers & the FA and acted accordlingly, the end result being happy customers.

Kudos to him.

ha ha - no only the lowest class Velocity member (normally travel QF)! Don't know what SRB means??
If the Captain thought we were celebs he was definitely mistaken (although I was often told I resembled Liz Hurley a few years ago -but that compliment hasn't come my way for a while now....... due to the ravages of time I guess! ;)
