Brisbane - New York - London

My husband and I are looking at 2 weeks in New York/London in November, leaving around 1st November. We need to be in London by the 11th November (couple of days before) and I would like at least a week in New York. We are leaving from Brisbane - looking for advice on best route, airline. Have 180,000 points to put towards upgrades. Also advice on best time to fly on these long haul flights. Any help appreciated.
