Less a trip report, more just a video and a short summery.

Spent a long weekend at Hamilton Island for a short getaway. Arrvived into rain on Thursday which did finally cleared. We got a package deal from Qantas flying Jetstar.

AS it was my first time on Jetstar I was impressed with the speed of the service (they turned the plan around in hamilton in 20 mins). The planes weren't that clean (IE they dont clear in between short flights) but as there was only about 60-70 people on each flight space and getting service wasn't an issue.

I did manage to sneak a video of our flight taking off from Hamilton going towards Brisbane. Very clear sunny day.

After we took off we went straight into Brisbane storms, so it was a bumpy ride home, finished with a very extreme cross wind landing. It’s a very short runway at Hamilton, we watched a DJ 737 take off in the middle of a storm on the second day, he used the full length of the runway after he held the at the threshold to rev the engines up to full speed.

Lovely view of the island .

Excellent video. What camera gear were you using?

A wonderful view of the islands, just a shame there was a scratch on your window ;)

I kept trying to move the camera away from the scratch... but meh, the FA gave me evils for using the camera.

wow, very nice video and the islands - they are Sooooo picturesque!

now if only i could find the time or $$$ to visit Hamilton Island

Reminds me of the time when heading to PPP* in the late 90's on a BAC146.

We were a party of 5 using the last row.

The pilot needed to do his 6 monthly assement and this was advised after departure - we arrived over the whitsundays about 30 minutes early and proceeded with 20 minutues of tight banks, shallow dives and climbs.

For me it was wonderful ; for SWMBO (who has issues with flying at the best of times, not so :-|)

Wonder when the new Whitsunday Coast airport will open at Laguna under the supervision of BAC, it will certainly spell the demise of PPP and perhaps reduce loads into Hamilton Is.

Hamilton only get 6 flights a day. It's not the most busy of airports.

It gets a bit more than 6 flights a day, with 30000 movements per year is closer to 50 return flights including international 757 and 767 charters and 767s are often used during school holidays. When Laguna is finished its planned to take up to 747's and given a lot of Hamilton Island traffic is actually for shute harbour and other islands, I think the longer strip and better facilities will appeal to those not intending to stay at Hamilton.

For the week or so I was there (excluding helicopter flights (joy flights etc))
There was only was 2-3 dj's , one Qantas link from Carins and 3 Jetstar flights a day (Arrival information has its own channel on the in room tv's). It wasnt school holiday time so I couldn't comment on the chartered planes, but even then there wouldn't be enough space for more then three planes on the ground.

Your only looking at the RPT movements which show up on the monitors, they dont include the significant inter-island connection flights, air services australia movement data is a tad more accurate than the arrivals/departures displays :D:

Hamilton Island Control Tower - Airservices Australia

Singapore Airlines also does a lot of its flight training in FNQ and one of their 6 lear 45's often will make a visit for some circuits and bumps adding to the numbers!

Its certainly a tower I wished I had worked in, although at the time the staff on island were mostly housed in coverted containers, no thanks!

The staff housing at the end of the runway ..sigh... Couldn't imagine it.

nice video.
The panasonic Lumix range with 720p video are really good, I recently got a FT1. It's just like having a video camera that can take stills.
