Brissie Int Champers

Well, for WP and above I thought? In the brissy lounge I always just ask for it and the lovely lounge staff oblige. It should really be for everyone though. I've always found it weird that someone paying many thousands of dollars for business class gets $20 sparkling in the lounge but once you're on board you're able to have champagne....

Remember that many of those in the lounge aren't actually flying business class

I thought the Secret Squirrel stuff was for P1 or CL only.

Maybe this is part of the VH initiated WP appeasement scheme ...

Apparently for everyone. The message apparently went out a couple of months back that champagne should be on request for everyone in the lounge.

I guess, on the flip side, makes you wonder about the Lallier in the MEL flounge. Don't get me wrong, Lallier is fine - but I would prefer a Piper or Taittinger (or even just a choice...)

Piper is a pretty low level basic NV champagne. It's a sad state of affairs for QF when this is what gets the punters excited. Why not put on some quality Tassie or WA sparkling wine instead.
Very fair point. Even the VIC Chandon Brut would be a semi decent drop and cheap as chips.

I agree completely although (could be rubbish) I thought it had something to do with the high alcohol tax rates they pay on the ground here, cf none (?) once they are in the air internationally.

Not a new thing. The PH article from last year implied as much if you ask nicely.

Yep Piper requested and received at BNE Int lounge this week. No boarding pass or card required to request. This was at 0700 ahead of a NZ departure so the lovely staff even had to open a fresh bottle…

Succeeded in getting in it in the PER T3 Int lounge on Friday ahead of QF34 to SYD. Polite "in the know" asking of the lounge manager when no one else was around did the trick, no BP needed :)

Family member traveled last Tuesday and was told it doesn’t exist (not told they can’t have some), the Qantas consistently inconsistent continues!

I might need to test this there in a few weeks. Did you specifically ask for the PH or just ask for champagne?

Should have said Piper (because while the standard offering of Fleur de Lys is most definitely not Champagne, a disappointing majority of bar staff do not know this IME), but asked in a knowing way and motioned toward the bar fridge in which I knew it was hidden...

No issues again tonight. Had one glass (which ended the bottle) and then quite a bit later a second glass which required opening a new one. Clearly not that many people aware and it was rather busy tonight!

We had flights on TG a week or so ago PER-BKK-ZCH, and it was listed first on their wine list. Very enjoyable.
