BA Have launched a sale on the Avios required to make bookings on awards flights. 50% off long haul and 25% off short haul in all classes. It's a pretty decent offer if you have a stash of Avios. Reports of stacking the offer with an Amex 241 voucher also seem to work. BA's taxes are normally quite high but the points discount might offset some of that if there's a flight option that could work for you.

Only applies to BA metal and can be used from any destination.

I've been looking at some options for a flight back home with my companion voucher and found a few examples:
LHR>SYD 23/3 (off-peak) - 62,500 + £470
SYD>LHR 23/3 (off-peak) - 68,750 + £242
SYD>SIN 23/3 (off-peak) - 25,000 + £128

Taken from the BA site

A decent offer indeed if you're in the UK (the fuel surcharges aside), but it's only valid on BA metal. BA has suspended its SYD-SIN-LHR flight and I'm not ready to be booking any trips to the UK at the moment.. :(
