Is it just me? Or are things getting out of hand?
I live in what is (IMHO) widely regarded as a tolerant society that generally speaking receives and welcomes immigrants from all races and creeds.
I have grown used to the expectation that I (and my cultural beliefs) are barely tolerated in some societies yet I'm expected to "suck it up"
So with this latest effort by HRH sultan hypocrite of Brunei.
I hereby am issuing a total ban on flying with his airline.
I know this futile gesture will not alter his many billions of $ in personal wealth, but it will make me feel a little better. (Rant over)

They weren't on my list of airlines to use anyway, but are now on the don't fly list.

I guess as the oil price slides the Sultan will be down his last USD50B.

Matt

Never wanted to fly with Royal Brunei anyway, they always ranked on the bottom of my list with Air Asia.

BI is an interesting one apart from the fact it is a dry airline, I know a couple of people who found it as a cheap way to travel in a premium class to LHR.

One couple (happened to be my in-laws) had an unexpected ~12+ hr stopover in BWN on the way back home to PER as the Sultan needed their plane. Something like that would put me off so I tend to agree with the sentiment here.

Golly with only $50Billion in the bank. You would think he would have one on standby !!

I have said it before and I'll say it again.....

I have always been told to respect other cultures and beliefs.
I get sick and tired of others not respecting mine.

Sixty Minutes did a piece on the activities of some of the royals, which is completely at odds with the Shariah law they are imposing on others

Another success story for the Wahhabi branch of Islam...

i have flown them before when they had a $1600 rt J class to China a couple of years back. Im not fussed by alcohol on a plane and the preflight prayers didn't upset me either.
While i respect other religious beliefs i cannot not accept the way women and gays and other minorities are treated in the name of Sharia Law. I won't fly with them again as result of this change for that reason only.

<snip>

Mmm. If it doesn't have alcohol - the type I never can justify to splurge on - then I don't think its premium.

Yes well hypocrisy is at an all time high with some of our neighbors.

Vote with your feet.

The only thing you don't get is the booze, which not everyone uses. If it's that much of an issue they do allow BYO, however the gimmick from memory was the real gold plated trim in the J cabin and toilets.

Sorry but the 60 mins show on TV was a repeat airing and ran a year or two ago.

Brunei has always been a dry airline and country and running Shariah law.

I flew with them a lot 99-12 and didn't mind them but was turned off when they enforced 20kg is 20kg and not 23kg checked baggage allowance combined with their leased 777 aircraft blowing up my headphones.

Not to soon after they pulled out of AKL and BNE so that was my end with them and move to EK who had just moved to allow 30 day plus periods for return trip bookings to be completed.

I still laugh that AUS passport holders have to pay $25 VOA fees but no fee for British or NZL passports if you want to enter Brunei to go to a transit hotel for a night.

A few years ago, I spent several days in Brunei with my then-SO who was at the time still legally married to someone else. Doing that now, it seems, would get me a real chance of getting stoned to death!

Didn't take any Syrian immigrants

Watched that.
I'm really at a loss about how to react without sounding like an hysterical redneck.
