I'm looking to redeem an award to Singapore (on SQ), and have the choice between:

Business Class on a 777-200 (772) or 744

or

Economy Class on an A380

Which would you choose and why?

Keep in mind that I've never flown Business Class, and that I've never flown on an A380 before.

AFAIK the 77W and the A380 have the new coughpit, but there doesn't seem to be any business class or first availability. I would be using BMI miles and I would purchasing the difference in miles.

Given the option I would always go business in preference to economy and sitting nearer the front I prefer the 747 to the 777.

I've flown SQ economy on the 747, 777-200 & 777-300. I've also flown business on their 747, 777-200, 777-300, 777-300ER and the A380.

If were were wanting to fly economy I'd certainly chose the A380 as it offers in my opinion the better overall economy class seating and would opt to sit in the upper deck..

However, if I'm going to be flying business my preference is to opt for the 777-300ER over the A380. Although they both offer the new business class seating, I prefer the 300ER. The 300ER has the same inflight entertainment system and has larger overhead lockers compared to the upper deck on the A380. The seat bins are useless as you can just about get a pillow in them.

Having said the above, giving that the OP is looking to redeem an award seat rather than paying for one, there may not be a lot of choice in what type of aircraft awards are going to available on, but with SQ, IMHO business class always trumps economy and in my experience, SQ economy trumps most other airlines economy class.

Go for the business class redemption purely because it would be your first time. Besides you could always fly in economy any other time anyway.

As nice as economy class is likely to be on the new aircraft (77W/380) - it is still economy class. You're not going to get an angled lie flat seat (like in the 744 business class), business class service, noise reduction headphones etc in economy - regardless of the plane you fly. Treat yourself!

Oh, one word of advice if you do choose business class, and departure ex-SIN is late night (after 23:00) and you want a full business class meal experience - I advise that you book the cook (details on the SQ website) (I would advise the same ex-AUS, but only available from SYD/MEL not BNE). Otherwise you just get a choice of light supper or breakfast.

Business class > Economy class, regardless of aircraft.

JCL on a 744, grab 17H or K and you're gold.

I am not fussed on whether to take the 777 or 747 - but I would take the business class option :) Take the business class experience when you can - economy can wait!

Just a thought also - the 772 I assume is the version with regional product. I believe the 777-200ER (that plies secondary European routes such as AMS, MAN etc) has the same suites as the 744. Can't tell this from the publicly available timetables though.

I wont 'vote' as I have no SQ experience - I will be watching the results!

I voted for the 744 in business.

I have flown the A380 in economy; on the charity flight and in business on the first SQ revenue flight.

I would still vote for 744 in business, the A380 will be around for a bit longer yet.

BNE/ADL/PER-SIN 772s are indeed regional JCL config services. As are the 773s ex-MEL.

Regional JCL (taken on a 773):

744s have the Spacebed, ala QF Skybed.

At the moment, I'm leaning towards a oneway SYD-SIN (Business) on a 744. NB, someone mentioned that you still pay taxes on a BMI award on SQ.

Can anyone tell me what they are, and what they are vs TG, etc? YQ taxes are the only ones charged, I think.

edit: Total taxes on an SQ business ticket seem to be only ~AU$200.
