This is the first time I have posted a message, hope I am doing it right. Hubby & I are off to UK & Europe this time next year and would like to use our ff points to fly business class from Perth to London and return. At this stage we only have enough points for one of us to fly with points and the other to pay. I have been doing a bit of research and have found if we can get a cheap fare to and from Singapore, we can then both use the points to fly business class Singapore to London and return. Can anybody think of a better way to both be able to fly business class with points? Also there doesnt seem to be a lot of business class seats available with Qantas, but there is with BA, on the qantas website. We would really like to go with Qantas, has anyone found any day better than others for availability of business class seats using points?
Thanks

Welcome to AFF lindyb! Seems like you have it already sussed out, that's not a bad option. BA Club World is quite comfortable

Welcome to the world of hunting for premium award seats on QF which is why I now use SQ for all awards. Always more award seats with BA between SIN and LHR in J. Do you have enough points for Y PER to SIN then J SIN to LHR for both of you ?then you don't have to pay except taxes. It's not so far between PER and SIN in Y.
In my experience mid week always has more premium seat availability than the rest of the week.
Also what is your status. You could purchase Y or PE seats PER to LHR then request upgrade with points .If you have high FF status then that could be an option
Cheers Danger UXB

I am assuming Y is economy and J is business. No we don't have enough points to fly Y and then J, only really enough to do the SIN to LHR return on business, as you say it really is not that far in Y PTH to SIN. When I have gone to check seat availabity QF9 never seems to have any business seats available but QF31 which leaves approx 55 minutes later seems to usually have business seats available, any idea why?
My status is Bronze but hubby is Gold, we will be using his points.
Thanks for your feedback

Probably because QF9 is often an A380 and QF31 often isnt!

Also, and probably more realistically, passengers dont want the extra connection.

I'd say if you can find availability on either, then take it.

Welcome to the forum.

QF9/QF10 is always full in my experience, vary hard to get seats although easier this year last year you could not even get low price economy seats, they all sold like hotcakes. And that was before it was an A380.

I fly QF9/10 often so i am happy just to get a seat on it this year compared to last year when i nearly always for cheap fares had to fly via SYD or PER.

Shouldn't that be the other way around? When did QF9/QF10 get an A380? I thought this was the next route to get an A380 although the delivery of the next A380 has now been delayed.

Thats what i thought but i was on it the other day and it was a 380, not sure if thats regular or just my flight as i had not planned to be on that flight. But that was the first time, it used to be all 744.

My flight in early November is a 744 still...

Thanks for all your help and suggestions, after watching the qantas ff site for over a week and checking several times a day, I finally realised I wasn't going to get us an ff flight on a Fri, Sat or Sun in July Did think about getting the next best which was via Frankfurt but the flights they were releasing earlier in the week which only added another two hours weren't being released so would have had to have a 4 or 5 hr stopover in Frankfurt which wasted too much time. So this morning have managed to get us a business class flight from Singapore to London using frequent flyer points on a Monday in July, Yahoo!!! It says it is U class, any idea what this means?
