Hi guys,

I'm hoping someone can help out with this.
I'm flying from Melbourne to LA via Auckland with Air NZ and claiming virgin points (I got status matched to Virgin Gold, have been really impressed with Virgin and am hoping to maintain gold this year).

Melbourne to Auckland is full-fare economy (Y) which should earn 40 status credits each way
Auckland to LA is Premium economy (A) which should earn 120 status credits each way
- Total status credits is 320.

I put in an upgrade offer and I've just been told that I have been successful with the new AirNZ "plus grade" and have been upgraded to Business Premier for the Auckland to LA leg - the booking class is "R" (which doesn't appear in the Virgin status credit table).

What I'm not sure about is whether I get business class points and status credits with that leg of the trip (which should get me an extra 40 status credits and will enable me to retain gold status for another year) - does anyone know how this works?

Help is much appreciated - I didn't know anything about this "plus grade" until airNZ sent me an email asking me to submit an offer.

Cheers

Sorry can't answer your question however I am doing similar thing next week from AUK to PEK in Y+. I have put in the request but I doubt I will get it as I only made a small offer. (plus there are 3 of us travelling and I couldn't afford to offer more) It would be interesting to see if anybody has an answer.

I was very surprised to be upgraded - my offer was definately in the "poor chance of upgrade" on the indicator!
It would just be the icing on the cake if I got business class status credits as well.

Mine was "very poor chance" so I guess time will tell....end of this week I think.

R class is what NZ use for elite upgrades. You will only get the miles/status in the original booking class. However I have seen posts that indicated that miles won't post automatically so you likely need to do a retro claim.

How much did you offer/pay if I can ask
When are you flying ?

I like that Air NZ is trying to obtain more revenue by doing this, but it does devalue the J class offering

I only offered to upgrade one way and put in $700 - I got the premium economy flights on special at a great price, so for business class it's a pretty good deal I think.

It is now -72 hours and counting...... I am assuming I didn't't get the upgrade as they said they would confirm 3 days before flight...... Better luck next time!
