So i have a return ticket to Singapore due and as such i intend to take advantage of the cheaper fares originating in Asia on QF. Looking at BKK- Mel Return is around $2700 in Business v. over 4k for Mel-Bkk return, so i am going to be using my singapore flight to fly to SG see some friends then get to BKK before having that ticket booked.

I visit HK, BKK and SG for work regularly, so the return tickets to asia arent a problem. However, i am curious about the Business saver terms:

  • Before and after departure
    • No refund
  • This fare may be used as credit towards the payment of any higher fare from the point of origin, provided the new fare conditions are met. If the new fare is cancelled the original fare cancellation conditions will apply. This credit must be used within 12 months of the original tickets date of issue. Additional charges and taxes may apply, plus any fare difference.

If i fly from BKK - Mel and then want to make a change of the booking, say fly to SG or HKK instead from Melbourne as part of the return ticket, will that be allowed as Melbourne would be considered the point of origin? Or does it have to link back to the origin of the first fare?

IIRC: Unless the ticket allows an end-point of SIN or HKG (unlikely), QF will deduct the cost of a one-way BKK-MEL fare from the value of your ticket, and use the remainder as the credit towards a one-way MEL-SIN or MEL-HKG flight.

EDIT: those J class flights ex-BKK look really cheap. Any TA you could recommend in BKK to book them (that would also get around the need to show a CC to the QF office within two days of book?)
