I'm flying with my wife from Perth to London via Singapore on Sunday. I'm a WP and have asked to upgrade my economy seats to Business Class on both sectors.

My problem is what luggage am i allowed to take. I will not know until 5 hours before the flight whether I get the upgrade for the Perth to Singapore leg. Then for Singapore to London I will not know until I land in Singapore. There are so many permutations....

No Business Upgrade will give me 20+20+15 (WP status) = 55kg all the way through, Business from Perth to Singapore would give me 30+30+15= 75kg of checked + up to 28kg of cabin luggage (2 x 7 kg per passenger).

What would happen if I get the Business Upgrade on the 1st leg but not on the 2nd from Singapore to London. Is there any other method of checking beforehand to see if I have a chance of even getting an upgrade on either leg. I've checked the QF website and put in the various legs to see if there are business class seats available but is this an accurate method. Do seats gets held back until the last moment??

thanks for any advice:confused:

Thanks Serfty

I've read the post you directed me to so hopefully Sunday morning I'll see a pleasant surprise in the amount of points I have in my account:eek:

btw does anyone know if this flight has Y+ seats. it is QF09 leaving on Sunday 31st August at 23:05. If no J available then the upgrade request reverts to a Y+ upgrade. No extra baggage concessions but it would be a nicer alternative to Y

QF9 this Sunday is looking pretty full (on the SIN-LHR leg, MEL-SIN not so full)

Ahh..one other question about baggage...

The limits for Business and Economy are 30Kg and 20Kg respectively + the 15Kg for WP status. These are all weight limitations as opposed to per piece when flying to the USA.

Is it okay to spread the weight over, say, 4 pieces of checked luggage as I would prefer to lug more pieces than to try and move 2 very heavy bags. For some reason I always pack 1 giant suitcase per person when travelling even though it is a weight limit rather than a piece limit.

We are travelling to France directly after landing at LHR so that involves the underground to ST Pancras, Eurostar to Gare d'Nord then TER to Brive. Therefore we do have to move the luggage off/on several types of transport + have to wait for all bags to show up on the carousel at the airport:lol:. what would be the best method to employ. minimum bags with max weight??

In fact you will have to do so. Maximum for any one piece of checked luggage is 32kg. The drawbacks to greater numbers of pieces are the amount of the allowance being taken up be the bags themselves (1 large bag will weigh less than the 2 smaller ones), more chance of something not making it, and waiting for the last one to appear!

If you get the first leg in J, but not the second, given your status it would be most unlikely there would be any issues checking your full J baggage entitlement all the way through in any event.
