Hi,
I’m new to the art of maximising points and I an seeking some advice please.

I’m wondering the best way to book flights from Lax to Portland. I understand they are a one world partner. I cannot seem to book through Qantas.com

Lastly I booked an economy one way fare from lax to Melbourne. I’m only a bronze frequent flyer so I couldn’t see anything other than economy.

I’m going out on 6th July. QF 16 via Brisbane at 21:40. If there’s anywayi can try to get an upgrade to business? I still have about &100k points left.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

LAX to Portland as a separate cash ticket. [Edit added cash]
Need to book on the Alaska or American airlines web site and add you QF ffn in the reservation process. Easy.
You cannot use QF ff points to upgrade AS or AA flights.

BNE LAX
Cash ticket? Or award? "I couldn’t see anything other than economy."
When you log in to QF manage my booking is there an upgrade button?
Awards cannot be upgraded. Effectively you cancel economy award and get a new premium economy or business award *if available*
But do not like your chances.

Welcome to AFF @Crazyred767

I presumably, you are trying to use points to book on Alaska Air metal from LAX to PDX.

If so, there have been reports that such have become rather scarce in recent months.

What days are you looking at?

Any other options for upgrading AS flights when booked with a QF flight number, as part of an international itinerary?

There are plenty of AS awards on QF (I have SNA-SEA booked in January - I did it in Y because it's under 3 hours, and the only business award was at an early hour - I spent $US39 on Premium instead and will have to pay another $30 for the bag as I won't have status at the time). This reflects that the flight is under 900 miles and thus the dining options will be pretty limited.

However upgrading award tickets is tricky because AS only makes First Class upgrades at check-in after upgrades have cleared for people with status. So they're not common.

Have you already booked a flight to PDX in economy? If you haven't booked the LA to Portland leg, don't limit yourself to LAX in Los Angeles - AS also flies to PDX out of SNA, BUR and ONT I think.
