Hi All,

Just trying to buy a Tivo through my Qantas points but when I get to the last page I get

Step 4 of 4. Your Order is Complete Unable to create awards order, no points have been deducted
Please verify your details and try again

I have re-entered the details a few times and tried to order using Safari and Firefox as I am on a Mac.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks

sparkle81,

Welcome to AFF.

Maybe you should have a look at this thread. It seems that people have not had much success with the shop so maybe you are fortunate it's not working :!:

Thanks everyone for you replies.

I rang FF Customer Service Centre and they are having the same issue. They are going to look in to it and call me later today.

Hopefully it will get sorted. I have heard a mix of reviews on Tivo's but thought why not get one as I have hundreds of points in my FF and wasn't using them for much else.

Will let you know when they call me back.

Per my post #2 above.

If you buy through the store your Tivo may not arrive.

If you use the points for travel you most likely will arrive :!:

Let's hope that if they do sell off QFF, Carlson aren't one of the buyers :)

Notsure TiVo actually works in Australia hence the reason they are not commercially available in JB HiFi....
Mr Packer etal pretty much squashed it. A lot has to do with the commercial Networks not publishing their schedules far enough out. Also much of the reason FoxTel don't display the programs for those channels. Chances are you try get something from channel 10 and you will have missed the first 5 mins or the last 10 mins coz their programs never run on time any way. if its the recording box you want for Foxtel.. Get an IQ..;)

TiVo does work in Australia. They are commercially available from places like Harvey Norman. They are not the most feature-rich PVR, but do have some good features that make it simple to use. The big missing feature for me is the ability to skip in 30-second intervals to skips ads quickly and accurately.

You can even program via the internet when you setup the correct account access. The TiVo needs internet access to get the program info. I bought the Tivo WiFi USB dongle and it just uses my normal home WiFi/ADSL link.

Oh, and Harvey Norman don't surcharge for Amex like JB do.

Actually, this publishing of program schedules has basically been sorted.

Also, with the "Overtime Scheduler®" you can set it start recording up to 10 minutes before a program's scheduled start time and finish up to 3 hours after the scheduled end time.

Oh, Well shows you how long its been since I have been back as that wasn't the case 12 months ago. My apologies.
Are they the panasonic ones avail in the states? And have the free to air channels got their programming to start/finish ontime? Have to let my folks know.
Cheers guys

You can either buy (from ebay) a US Series 1 or the new Aussie Series 2.

The Aussie one is, of course, mostly crippled, so you lose a lot of the functions of the US one.

Also ours only does FTA, not pay-tv..

Does TiVo record in HD though? One of my main bugbears with IQ is that it only records SD and Foxtel HD IQ2 doesnt have HD FTA channels I believe. It is a great source of frustration...

Yes, the TiVo has dual HD tuners and records in HD, although the HDD is only 160GB I believe.

Correct. And obviously HD recording eats into the 160GB quickly. But being a "PVR for dummies", TiVo does not give a lot of options for optimising things like disk usage.

Forums like Whirlpool still favour PVRs like Beyondwiz and Topfield.

Foxtel does publish the schedules on cable services, just not on the Satellite services and I think that is variable depending of where your located.

IceTV provides a decent service with the schedules pretty far in advance. Finally, the digital signal from each station also seems to be up to date, but not very far in advance. Certainly EyeTV has been pretty good at getting the times correct using this method. Not that I've used it very much.

Well I got a response from Qantas Awards late yesterday and they seem to be as everyone says they are. And that is totally pathetic.

They got back to me and advised that the computer systems won't allow them to order the item. When I asked if they could put it through manually they advised that they don't do that and that they are just there to answer calls not to bypass system shortfalls.

As for the rest of the store there seems to be a good range but they seem to be a bit arrogant with their prices when almost every other award store has the items cheaper.
