Calculating how Velocity Points are earned...

I'm trying to back-track to see if I've been accredited the right amount of Velocity points for flights made in July/August between BNE & ADL Return. I booked without baggage at first, before realizing afew days later that I would need to check-in something through, thus forking out the extra $20.
On the website is says 5 Points per $1 spent on Red, with the dollar amount to work that out from (Quote) "Earn rates are based on the total fare price - including taxes, fees and surcharges - excludes credit card surcharges and baggage fees." Based on earn rate from each flight, I spent apparently $278 eligible in earning points. This is what stumping me now...

Total Fare: $252.72
Credit Card Surcharge: $6.36
Baggage Fee: $18.18
Subtotal: $277.26 (Rounded up to $278, which equals the amount above)
Total GST: $27.74
TOTAL: $305

So unless the terms and conditions here have changed since then (If someone does know, please let me know so I can get on my merry way without making too much more of a fool of myself ;) ), how is this all working out. No matter how I calculate it, I can't get a magical figure that gives me 695 points for each flight <_< The wording is just confusing me slightly yes (So are we really calculating the credit card surcharge into the equation as well as assuming as baggage fees are for excess baggage weight when at the terminal....which gives me the figure...but then somehow excludes tax?!), but can someone help explain all this to me please. While it might seem I'm sulking over afew measly points, it's more the principal I'm worried about...that, and how I'm trying to figure out will it be worth my while to change my flight this Friday BNE to SYD from Flexible to Corporate, having already had it changed from Go! Fare & Blue Saver, just so I can guarantee avoiding excess luggage fees and hopefully then earn just enough points for a one-way flight from points, rather than spending them in the Velocity store like last time...

Sorry if it seems abit over the top for my first post - I've lurked these forums for awhile now, but never saw the point in joining til today and this problem boiling over! I would call them (Velocity), but Christmas holiday, and the fact I probably won't get a chance to call them tomorrow or even before my flight for whatever reason...that, and this seemed like a good excuses to finally join :)

....And for the record: Never had this problem with point calculation with Qantas - Then again, never had to add baggage to my flight afew days later, or have to change my flight so much in such a short period...

Total Fare: $252.72
Component of GST on Fare: $25.272
= $278

278*5 = 1390 points = 695 points each way.

The 278 figure is not rounded up from pre-tax fare, fees and surcharges. It's from the tax-inclusive fare.

I realise that it has been explained but as you noted points are not earned on CC surcharge and Baggage fees. So simply a matter of taking the fare and adding GST (note that GST is listed separately and isn't an excluded tax)

Hence 252.72x1.1=$277.99 or $278 then x5 =695.

So I forgot to make one other calculation, which would have saved abit of time and frustration...oh how I feel like an idiot right now <_< I knew the credit card/baggage fees weren't calculated in some way, but just couldn't work out that all it was the Total Fare + GST...

My question now is if my $10 I paid on my Blue Saver for the checked in baggage will now count towards my fare in having upgraded to Flexible (and probably another upgrade to Corporate tomorrow) for my flight BNE to SYD on Friday - Though I guess I will have to call through to Velocity tomorrow morning to have that all sorted...

Thanks for your help :) Now I'll just slide back into the shadows out of pure embarrassment

No need to feel anything. It took me a while to get it. And the separation of the gst is a bit confusing.

To answer my own question, I did a dummy booking from Blue Saver to Corporate for my return flight for Monday SYD to BNE: The first recognize you have paid the baggage addition before for the Blue Saver fare, and then just deduct the $10 from what additional costs your paying for upgrading/changing your fare - Seem's to work out simply enough :)

Now I'm just looking forward to the complementary Lounge access and breathing easy that I'll be fine with my check-in baggage plus banners I need for the convention I'll be at!

I take it you realise that if you have a corporate plus fare or have silver+ status, you don't have to pay for baggage. It's just that if you have complimentary lounge access, you should have free baggage too. I could be wrong of course.
