Hi all

I know this is probably a long shot, but...

My husband is heartbroken that his treasured leather wallet that he got as a freebie with his Qantas club membership in about 1996 is on its last legs.

Cobbled together with masking tape, it is threadbare and the seams are busted.

Help me be the best wife in the world (not that he deserves it, he is going on a junket to San Diego and leaving me behind), and donate/sell me yours if you have one of them that you dont want? Sure, it's probably been cluttering up your cupboard forever, and you just want to get rid of it right?

Or maybe you know where I can buy one?

thanks heaps!

No leather wallets but you might find something else that could help fill the void: qantasshop.com.au
There's a lot of qantas memorabilia on ebay also - old business class chair for the lounge perhaps :)

It looks very very similar to a freebie Singapore Airlines gave away in the 80s to business class passengers, it was by Pierre Balmain.

Many people are in the same situation with those wallets. They were great and are now on their last legs.

The closest I have been able to find has been from Muji. The leather is not as soft, and it's just not 'the same', but it is almost the same size. Might be worth it if you can't find anything else.

Thanks for the tips so far, had a look at Muji US and Europe websites, neither of which appear to have wallets, but am happy to be proven wrong...

Looked up Pierre Balmain too, no luck finding anything that looks like it.

Off to check ebay i guess.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why these were so good?

I have leather and a sewing machine and am very tempted to make one! Just want to know why it is so special first, so I can be sure to make the best possible one!

Keep those tips coming please!

I still use mine - it's was a give-away to those who reached OG when that was top tier.

They used to sell something similar for around $90.

All I can see currently is this: Qantas Travel Wallet

For me, they were so good because they were almost the exact same size as a credit card, meaning you could just slip the wallet in your front pocket and there was no bulk. Much better (for me) than a standard wallet you have to stick in your back pocket. The smaller slip pockets on one side were perfect for frequently used cards (ATM/credit/driver licence/FF card). The larger pocket in the wallet allowed you to put a couple of notes and a few cc receipts and one or two business cards (wallet was not good for coins, or large numbers of notes).

I got my muji one at Hong Kong airport, just by chance happened to see it in the display cabinet.

OMG Liam R was it the Nappa Leather Gusseted Card Case? That looks really close!

Thanks for that!

LeahM

No, I purchased the Nappa Leather Tri-Fold Wallet.

I've never seen the Qantas wallet before, but I have seen the Boeing Leather Gusseted case, from what I can see in the picture above, they look the same.

Alright, looks like you guys have helped me crack it.

The Boeing wallet I mentioned above is extremely close!

I think the trick is to search for gusseted wallet. All the others I have seen in shops are the bi-fold type.

Gussets are the go!!

Thanks to all of you, I have a happy hubby, but still no invite on the San Diego junket...

The people on this forum are a great big pile of awesome!!
