I’m headed to the airport now
My sister is unable to change her seat selection via the app or online
Are the club lounge staff able to assist with this?
There aren’t hardly any manned service desks anymore

They definitely used to be able to help (I changed a bit in the past in similar circumstances) but I think QF now discourage staff helping with changes like this as QF believe / said clients like using the phone and app more 😳

Your sister should give it a go and let you know if worked or not so AFF can see if this service is still possible.

yes, they should

but given a lot of flights are packed full today (specially in/out of MEL) it is likely the reason she can't change seats is under airport control (change at kiosk if no staff) or nothing to move too.

If already checked in, the seat selection button moves in the app - from the usual manage booking location, to bottom of the boarding pass.

Also, I know you mentioned in another thread you were travelling together on separate PNRs, in future you can call Qantas and ask them to link the two to increase the likelihood you are seated together.

Thanks for the tip on consolodating the tickets.

The issue with the change of seat was it just wouldn't allow it on her ticket, I could change my seat but when it took us to the seat selection page for her, all the seats were X out. Very strange. The lovely Qantas Desk Agent at the Lounge quickly changed her seat next to mine which was an Exit row which was nice and gave us both our boarding passes.
Very easy and quick.

It seems unusual as within 80 hours of departure all available seats should have opened up and any limits on allocations for status holders would have been removed. Another well known QF "glitch" no doubt. Welcome to the whacky world.!

Glad it was easily sorted for you both.

No, within 80hrs it comes into the DCS (departure control system) and actually has a high level algorithm in place, which has been discussed before. Before 80hours it's just a bunch of set static rules. Inside that time it's very dynamic and changes all the time, depending on passengers on the flight, ticket class, FQTV status, links etc etc.

OK sure, but it seems unusual a Gold can select a seat on the flight but another pax (staus unknown, but I will guess lower or none) could not at that point. When a flight comes under airport control which I think is DCS(?) then yes it can become very fluid. Just seems unusual in my experience that's all. I am no an insider (obviously ! despite certain claims made some years ago)

Not unusual ime, even after T-80 status level can still cause blocked seats. I bet in this case that is what happened with OP allocating a seat and then trying to get the non-status person to sit next to them.

What I find I need to do in this situation is allocate a seat to the lower status person first and then move myself to sit next to them. The other way around doesn't work since my status level prevents the partner from sitting next to me, the majority of the time.

Not to harp on but the OP did indicate that all seats were showing as unavailable to select for the non status pax, not for a specific seat next to a status pax (and Gold do not typically receive automatic blocks, but I know this is a debate had many times over many threads :) )

The only other reason that usually happens (that I am aware of) is if the preallocation seat limit is reached on a flight.

With "notional seating" and PCV with the QF specific tailored variances it sometimes happens no seat is available for selection for some. (Pure notional seating would generally ensure at least one seat is available.)
