I'm traveling SYD-LAX soon. I'm flying business and I have a work client in premium economy. I assume that there would be slim to no chance of getting my colleague into the inflight business lounge (even if it's empty) so that we can chat work...

Discreetly ask the FA. I'm sure sure you'll accept the answer graciously no matter whether approved or not.

I don't think the lounge area is well used so it should be ok.
Agree.

In theory, if they get past the curtain they just have to get through that very long stretch of “no man’s land” of J before entering the safety of Emerald City.

One additional thing - when you ask the CSM, you may like to specify a time limit on your guest’s time up front. I recall now the only time I asked for someone to come up from economy to sit with me in business - two friends. I mentioned to CSM that it would be after the meal service has been cleared away and they would return before next meal service or whenever the CSM indicated that should return . He actually smiled and said well done that last bit makes it good to go and I’ll let you know when they need to return. 😊

+1 to this - albeit for a family member, CSM gave me permission for upto 30 minutes of which we graciously only used 20.
