I have nearly 200,000 points on my Amex Explorer credit card.

I'm wondering if I should join CX Asia miles and then be able to transfer my Amex points?

I have an existing Q class booking on CX. I quoted my QF FF number but appreciate there's no earning capacity on CX Q class. If I join Asia miles before the flight could I change the FF details on an existing booking?

At the same time, I have about 130,000 QF FF points and a small balance with Air New Zealand airpoints.

In addition to my Amex card, I have ANZ and WBC Visa cards that earn QF FF points.

I'm concerned my Amex points will be much less value after April 2019. I have never redeemed any Amex points.

I would definitely transfer somewhere before April.
CX is very reasonable programme though the miles do have an expiry. Unfortunately availability is not quite as good as it used to be (but no worse than Qantas without status) .

Alternatives are Singapore (3 year expiry, quite good availability) or Velocity (no expiry). There was a recent AFF article on Thai sweetspots.Etihad can be good for domestic VA redemptions.

I would choose the programme you can anticipate redeeming on.

It's free to join Asia Miles and you can credit your Q class fare there. It should be easy to change the FF number on the CX website
