I've got a stupid number of Velocity points and it might be time to burn a few off.

Could someone give me an idea of how to upgrade SQ from economy up to business?

Thanks!!

Is it a VA booking or a SQ booking.

And I thought SQ only allowed you to upgrade one cabin only, so if thats correct, does that mean its Y to PE unless there is no PE?

If it's a SQ booking:

- Create a Krisflyer account
- Transfer points from VA to SQ (should be immediate).
- Go into your SQ booking, select "Upgrade with Miles"
- Select your choice if available (Saver or normal). Doing it online is 15% less miles.
- If not available you may be able to waitlist.
- As previously pointed out you can only upgrade 1 class up.

Curious what a stupid number of points...... Maybe not enough?
More than 1 million?

As availability is limited, I take the approach of calling SQ and checking upgrades are available for my flights of choice and have them confirm points required and then transfer needed about from VFF to KF.

Once availability confirmed, I book my flights while still on the phone - you just book Economy Flexi fares - and have them apply the upgrade immediately.

Note that the fare class required to upgrade is often significantly more expensive than a flexi saver. If your points balance allows, I would recommend outright business saver redemptions and cop the high fuel surcharges.

I take it it's not possible to upgrade an SQ flight if it is booked through virgin? I needed the eligible sectors so booked some codeshare flights through them instead of direct with SQ. Now wanting to upgrade them but doesn't seem like it's possible.

My experience from a few years ago, SQ wont even let you buy a exit row if you booked via VA :(

From what I've read, generally if you want to upgrade on a flight you need to be flying the operating airline, using their points, AND have bought a ticket from them (not sure if travel agents count). So all 3 stars need to align, no codeshare stuff like I can't upgrade on EK even with EK points if I bought via Qantas.

Just booked an ultra short notice trip with work to HK on Singapore - wondering if there's any point attempting to xfer points and upgrade given I leave tomorrow night? :o

I'm happy to stand corrected, but I actually thought that you couldn't transfer VA points to SQ then purchase an economy ticket on SQ and upgrade using those points. Not sure where I got that from, so perhaps someone else can confirm if correct.

Just an hour ago I transferred a stash of points to SQ, purchased Premium Economy return to London and upgraded to Business using the transferred points.

Brilliant. I must admit that it didn't make sense at the time when I was advised of this, so pleased to stand corrected.
