Could someone possibly run a Velocity award search for me please? I'm interested to know the points + $ cost of a VA MEL-LAX (or LAX-MEL) in J at the "default" setting, and also the points + $ cost when using Points + Pay to reduce the points component to the minimum possible.

I can't run it myself as I don't have enough Velocity points in my account.

Thanks!

Points + Pay doesn't exist for long haul any more (at least, not in the sense of extremely good value domestic rewards seats for 6,900 pt + $x). All you can do is trade off points for taxes.

If you enter MEL-LAX into the calculator on the Velocity site, it spits out 94,000 + taxes. A dummy booking allows you a range from 94,000 pt + $361.97 to 137,600pt + $0.00.

Whilst it staill shows "points + Pay" indeed this has changed.

Last Sept I got VA redemption on Pts + Pay 150,000 plus about taxes $700 - and the sliding scale clearly worked.

This Sept 188K pts + Taxes $660 odd I think - sliding scale now has little effect on pts burn - 188K is min pts required.

I even sent a personal message to the company rep Virgin Australia and he told me that Points + Pay was available but when I tried again through the Platinum support line they told me no go can only pay taxes with the points. I too in the past have been able to redeem VA on Pts + Pay for 150,000 plus about taxes $700 and am saddened by this "Enhancement".

I sent another personal message to the company rep Virgin Australia but have not recived a response.
