I'm not happy with the new late departure time with a flight I booked for Hamilton Island... (I'm nearly loosing an entire day there, which is awful for such a short stay I'm going for)

Can I cancel the flight since DJ changed flight times?

(without penalty)

What was the actual change in times? 3 Hours? 13 Hours?

This is the most important aspect.

3 hours, which makes a difference from half a day in the Whitsundays to an evening in the Whitsundays.

I'd just give it a try. Explain the whole situation and usually most airlines will oblige. Usually half the luck is getting an understanding agent on the other end.

Concur ... especially as you were only staying 1 day and 2 ½ days originally.

If you have already accepted the Schedule change then getting a Cancel without penalty or another change is going to be a lot of pleading....

However if not yet accepted... shouldnt be a hassle..

nope... haven't accepted anything yet.

original departure time was 8:45am new departure time is 12:20pm

almost 4 hours.... the previous day's departure time is 11:15am I think

Darn

is this the one you got at a good rate for points + cash?

I remember reading the thread, and was pleased you were happy and got a good fare

I dont have solutions sadly, but I do hope it gets sorted :(

wonder if they'd let me fly a day early... will call next week.

thanks guys!

thanks to Virgin customer service I am now flying a day early.

I presented my dilemma when I called and was given an option to fly out the same day on a connecting flight through Brisbane which would arrive about an hour earlier than the flight change.

I was gong to take that offer, but decided to see what a supervisor could do... basically I initially asked if I could either fly a day early or cancel the whole booking, and the customer service lady said both of these options have fees attached to them... so i wanted to see if the supervisor could waive the fee.

ten minutes later, the customer service rep advised that the supervisor wanted to be lenient with me and allow me to travel a day early... as she was saying this my cell phone ran out of pre-paid minutes... D'oh!

I called back from a land line to thank her, but apparently the call service cannot transfer incoming calls, so a different lady that answered promissed to e-mail my customer service rep a note of thanks.

Cool...
