I've got a Qantas Club complementary invitation for becoming Silver and was wondering if I could use this at TBIT LAX as I have a 6 hour gap between domestic and international legs when returning to AU.

The invitation doesn't say anything about use overseas.

Thanks,

PN

Yes you can use it at LAX.
I was there last week - as Gold I was able to host my daughter in and my wife used a complimentary invitation card to get in.

The fine print on my invitation suggests it is only valid at Qantas operated lounges so I would think it might not be valid at LAX TBIT, which is a Skyteam operated lounge and seems to be run primarily by Korean Air. (All the newspapers apart from one copy of USA today were in Korean)

There is a oneworld lounge at TBIT, operated by QF/BA/CX. It has been open for nearly three years.

Correct. After you've checked in, go through the security checkpoint on the RH side of the terminal and the entrance to the Qantas lounge is in front of you as you exit the security area. Take the elevator up (5th floor I think) and you're at the lounge. :)

Friends of mine (QP members) were directed to the Skyteam lounge last week at TBIT, I presume due to capacity/overflow issues. I would imagine the complimentary pass would be good for that lounge in these circumstances.

Is the QC lounge better than the Skyteam lounge or would you say they're both much the same?

Don't know. I've never been in either.

My LAX departures since I've had lounge access have been from T4. I don't think my friends were overly impressed by the Skyteam lounge, but I've heard that the OW lounge can be chockers (hence being directed to the ST lounge). I'll try and find out some detail from them about the ST lounge and post it.

Thanks - that would be very helpful :)

ST lounge reported to be quite basic, with scant food offerings (sandwiches, did not sound tempting). No greater detail than that (unsure about booze offerings), other than to say it did not match up to 'normal' QP standards (oh, and no evidence of showers, though that does not mean there weren't any).

On my first return through LAX TBIT I ended up in the Skyteam lounge by mistake than by design (I showed my Qantas Club Card to the Korean Dragon who muttered something about "invitation" but let me in anyway)
I had five hours to wait for QF94 after arriving in T3 from Boise.
The lounge was fine and deserted up until about 9pm. Food was the weakest point - there were sandwiches and various snacks, including sweet pastries at one stage. Drinks were serve yourself anything (canned beer and soft drinks in the fridge, ice, wines and spirits on the counter, plus larger tapped supplies of juices , ice tea, and tea and coffee etc)
There were showers (adjacent the ladies toilets), plenty of comfortable armchairs and good wifi. Newspapers, apart from one copy of USA today were all in Korean.

With a complimentary Lounge invitation you will not (shoud not, may not, will probably not) have a choice of which lounge to visit. If the Qantas Lounge is not full then that is where you will be otherwise they may redirect you to the Skyteam lounge.

That's what I was expecting but based on the feedback of the quality of the Skyteam Lounge if they redirect me there I could always choose to not use my complimentary invite and hold on to it for use another day, and just use the regular terminal facilities.

That certainly sounds like a good idea.

I love hanging around the terminals in the US and having a beer in one of the cafes/bars. The terminals are abuzz with people going about their business.

I haven't been to LAX for many years so I might well do that.

TBIT is devoid of anything once you're past security. Last October/November they had a Sees Candy store, and that was it.

All the cafés and bars are prior to security. That said, you can leave/enter the airside area at any time in TBIT (just take your BP and Passport with you).

Really that is sad.

I have sat around at bars/cafes in terminals in ORD, MIA, IAD and loved the experience more than some of the lounges.

Serfty what do the OWE use when leaving on QF94? Is there a first class lounge avaialble?

Also leaving JFK i take it we have Terraces BA from terminal 7 - is there a better one around - AA flagship nearby?

cheers

The TBIT oneworld lounge has both Business and First areas.

The First lounge tends to get kind of busy before QF12 and QF94 depart.

I try to use the T4 F/L prior to taking the Gt44 airside transfer bus over to TBIT about 90 minutes before QF94 is scheduled to depart.
