Currently I've got QFF Platinum, and have a CX economy flight HK to Vancouver soon. Can I use QFF points to upgrade to business?

Also would love someone to point me in the direction of where to find acronym meanings used here!

Welcome to AFF!

Unfortunately you can't. Upgrades can only be requested on a Qantas ticket with a Qantas flight number, on Qantas metal (i.e. operated by Qantas).

This post is useful to get started: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ions/abbreviations-and-explanations-5056.html

The above being said, CX generally treat other OWE (OneWorld Emerald)'s quite well, so if you're lucky you might be upgraded.

I can vouch for CX upgrading OWE's on Flights. I average an OPUP 1:5 flights with CX if im flying whY. Cant complain thats for sure..

Havent managed to get upgraded to F as yet even when flying on a J ticket :( (not that one should expect it). although when i flew from HKG to SFO early last month there was a guy flying J who was CX Gold member I think and when he was scanned at the boarding gate the Green light came up and he asked " So im not being upgraded to F ?" as if it was expected.. Then when he got to his seat upstairs near me, he asked the cabin supervisor he she can see if he can be seated in F ?? WTF ??? Must have missed out on a upgrade request..

In Asia Miles you’re upgraded immediately when you request if there’s space available, so unless he bought the flight last minute, I would guess he was just being coughy :p

As for him being upgraded first, that’d be right

We understand that the ranking system which applies in determining who receives priority for an operational upgrade is as follows (with thanks to kchika):
  1. VIP (Heads of State, Government Bodies, or Canto Pop/Movie stars)
  2. CX Diamond Plus
  3. CX Diamond Invitation, Diamond
  4. CX Gold
  5. CX management staff on travel duty
  6. oneworld Emerald
  7. CX staff on duty nominees , other airline staff nominees, CX staff on personal travel
  8. oneworld Sapphire
  9. CX Silver
  10. oneworld Ruby
  11. CX Green
  12. Asia Miles
  13. Non status

The times you've scored OPUP's on CX when having a Y ticket, were they generally because the Y cabin was oversold? I have my first CX flight in a couple of weeks and have read quite a few threads on WP's and OPUP's, almost all being positive. I have a QF ticket on CX metal for HKG-FCO.

Are the CX OPUP's kinda the same as QF (red beep when scanning ticket, getting a call in the lounge, etc) ?

It can also come down to how you are travelling. I'm QF NB... and yet was bumped from C to F by CX...

After being asked "Are you travelling alone?".....

Ive never had my name called at the gate. Its always nice to see the red light at the boarding gate scanner.

I flew from FOC - BKK (via HKG) today and CX didnt disappoint. Then again that flight (751) iz always full (in my experience).

I have my 2nd and 3rd ever CX flight in WHY later on tonight. I have managed to move from 35G to 32G for 1st flight but stuck back in 46D for 2nd flight. Plenty of middle seats avaiable though. Haven't slept yet so hopefully I will be so tired that I will be able to sleep on those flights.

So based on your averages I need to wait for another 2 WHY CX flights for my fisrt op-up from WHY to J?

Not even going to bother praying for an op-up with my recent luck. :-|
