Anyone in Canberra interested in a catch up in the afternoon of April 24th, I'm QF'ing up from Melbourne at lunch time, so about 3pm.

I'm happy to host at my place (well I'll have the BAM parked in Kingston).

Matt

I'll be there and looking forward to seeing BAM again.

Last Friday I was at the Kyoto Steam Train museum where there are 20 roads into the sheds and a turntable which they put to good use.

Just awesome and I took hundreds of photos.

I can assure you all that steam smells and tastes as sweet in any language.

How long are you in Melbourne for? perhaps a Melbourne catch up too?

Hi, I'm only in Melbourne for the Saturday night to go on the Restaurant Tram (of course) as I've never been on it and only ever heard rave reviews. There is a small contingent coming from Sydney for it.

Will be staying at the Grand Hotel which is the old Victorian Railways administration building.

Add my voice to the ravers. I took my wife for an anniversary dinner and I took some friends on it once as a surprise. "I won't say what it is, but it's a very moving experience."

Had a ball both times. Eating good food and raising a flute as you pass by all the people waiting at the tram stops after a hard day in town. At coffee time the tram stopped near a milk bar and the waiter went sprinting off to buy some cream. Geez, it was fun!

Ahh both good choices! I've not done the tram restaurant but I have heard good things about it. Likewise with the hotel too!

Enjoy!

I'll move my idea from the O/T thread to here..

Anyone up for an AFF Poker Evening at my place in MEL that w/end then?

If sufficient interest, i'll start it's own thread (Bundy mentioned this w/end with the JQ35 flight being available and all ;))

The restaurant tram, that brings back memories, a million years ago (well early 80s) I did the crew rostering for that tram when it was based at Sth Melbourne depot.

Well I caught up with Matt yesterday and today and will also travel with him again tomorrow.

Here is just one photo from two fantastic days of steam travel and incredible company.

We had great food, incredible company and two amazing steam train trips from CBR-Bungendore including a night trip.

For those who have travelled on BAM1748 (a private train carriage) you would know what a privilege it is to have your very own carriage at the front or rear of the train far from the maddening crowd. Imagine your own totally private compartment on a plane.

Thanks Matt for making this opportunity available, I truly appreciated your fine hospitality over the last two days and look forward to our trip tomorrow.
