Cancellation question

I've got an upcoming international return booking. Qantas has changed the last flight/last leg by 5 minutes - no worries.

However, I need to cancel or change the whole trip anyway.

Can I use the small change by Qantas as an excuse to get a refund on the whole booking?

On Manage my Booking, it keeps asking me to Accept the change, Change the flight, or Cancel/Voucher. And it says: "Your flight booking may have been disrupted. Accept, change or cancel your new flight arrangements if these options are offered. There is no charge associated with this change, although note that charges may apply to any further changes or cancellations depending on your fare type."

If I hit cancel, will it let me know if it's going to charge my a cancellation fee? Will they charge my a cancellation fee given it's not really a significant change so they probably don't have to give me a refund?

Thanks

If you want a refund you have to call them.

I'm not sure if they'll give it to you for 5 minutes, but you can try.

I've done that a couple of times before. Like others have said, for a full refund you must call and state that you want to cancel for a refund due to the changes.

It was a while ago but Qantas call centre allowed me a significant change (to next day) after a 10min flight time change. They've also refused a similar event another time. I think they have discretion. No harm in asking, and then if needed you can cancel

The CoC defines significant change as "a change that significantly impacts you and your travel plans".

So, as long as you can explain why those five minutes are significant, you're sweet.

I have had a 5 minute change happen to me before which allowed me to call up Qantas and force them to put me on a connecting flight from ADL back to SYD, thereby earning me the 10 missing SCs I needed to earn a loyalty bonus that year. So yes it is possible, but 5 minutes for a full refund does seem a bit rich if you ask me.

I've managed to get a reroute due to a minor schedule change before, although the call center said that they didn't think it would normally be allowed.
