Hi everyone, hope this is the correct place. Hoping to get some guidance or suggestions on what to do.

History:

In July 2022, I booked a classic rewards flight through Qantas from Sydney to Barranquilla, Colombia return.
SYD > LA
LA > Miami
Miami > Barranquilla

These flights are all with American Airlines.

A few months later, they cancelled the Miami > Barranquilla flights as I believe they had reduced their flights from twice a day to once a day. This resulted in no suitable connecting flights on the same day. I had to contact the Qantas call centre to arrange a rebooking.

I asked them to rebook me on a Miami > Barranquilla flight the day after instead (and the Barranquilla > Miami flight a day earlier). They put this request through, and the Miami > Barranquilla flight was confirmed, but the Barranquilla > Miami flight was cancelled for an unknown reason.

I called them again, and they requested a reinstatement with American Airlines and since then it has been stuck on "Requested" and not confirmed. I have been calling every week for an update, but Qantas keep saying they are waiting for a response from American Airlines. It has been several months with no response from AA, and I am supposed to be flying out on the 6th February. Each time I call Qantas, they seem to have different responses, some seem quite negative and have offered a refund, while others are more hopeful and tell me I should expect a response from AA in the next few days, but nothing ever eventuates.

What should I do?

This probably isn't going to help but I posted a similar call for help in November. In the end I cancelled and rebooked, but my flight in question was not part of a longer itinerary.

One option to reduce the chances of the whole booking being cancelled is to drop the Barranquilla bit from the itinerary, as this would appear to be the weak link in terms of cancellations.

Keep the award seats for Syd <> Miami return, as these flights are "reliable", and buy a separate ticket for the Barranquilla sector with maybe a day's layover as contingency in Miami. Or try to get it on a separate points booking.

This will quarantine the sketchy flight, so that if the Barranquilla flight changes again, it won't invalidate your other flights.

Did you check in CMT that you actually have a 081 issued ticket for the other legs after all these changes?

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Just a quick update: after several more calls with both AA and Qantas (both passing the blame to the other), I was eventually assigned a dedicated Qantas customer service rep to handle my issue, and finally managed to confirm the flights yesterday and was ticketed this morning.
