cancelled flight reinstated?

So in late May I booked a short trip, PER-MEL return, for early August. And then of course the latest outbreak came along in Melb. I wasn't too worried and sure enough, now looking very good for the trip to go ahead 🤞
However, QF emailed me yesterday, advising changes to both legs. But by changes, looks like actually they have just cancelled the flights I was on and put me on adjacent flights. I'm guessing this is about loads across the days involved.
My question is; has anyone had this happen and then seen their original flight reinstated to the schedule? Just seems like with the WA border to VIC very likely to re-open in the near future, travel demand for early Aug is likely to be what it was when I booked, when QF thought my original flights were justifiable.
If something like this HAS happened to you, did you get back on your original flight, or what?

Yes, in these times, the flights could easily be reinstated. Tomorrow I will fly MEL to DRW. In the last three months this route has gone from 1 daily flight, to 2 per day, to 1 every second day and now back to 1 per day. Anything could happen by August.

In the end, I’ve gone from 9pm 737 flight to 7.30pm on A330. Very happy with the end result in J.

Thanks for that. So if QF do put on my original (preferred) flights, I assume they won't automatically switch me back. But do you think if I requested to change back, QF would do so at no cost - even if, say, the fare class I had booked was not available? Further to this, as another wrinkle, I got the return leg in J during the 30% off classic awards sale...but I wouldn't think it fair to have to pay the extra (up to the normal rate) in points to change back to my original flight.

I am pretty confident Qantas would change you back to a flight around your original timing if there was any seating available in the cabin booked - fare class availability should not be an issue.
