Cancelling and re-booking red e-deal

Hey guys,

Can someone let me know if I have this right? The FAQ and a search here doesn't really help me. 30 minutes on hold to QF and I give up! That time of the evening I guess.

If I book a red e-deal one way for $380, and then cancel, the credit/voucher I receive from QF in return will be of $380 value. I can then re-book, incurring a $55/$60 change fee (depending on when I do it). I know there is a condition that the new flight must be of equal or higher than the original flight.

Since I cancelled a one-way flight, could I then re-book a return flight to the value >=$380 (even a sale fare)? Or would I have to book a one-way flight to the value of $380 or more?

Previous vouchers I have received (also from cancelled Red E-Deals) have stated that I can use the credit towards any one-way or return booking of equal or greater value.
 
Unless it has changed from the last time I did it a couple of years ago, you are charged the change/cancellation fee when you cancel the original flight (i.e. now) rather than when you re-use the credit. It would be much better if they deducted the fee from the credit, like I understand Virgin do.

Been a while for me too however I very clearly recall they took the fee out of the credit, which makes the most sense. I would of done this several times. You can have trouble using the credit depending on the fare bucket you want to rebook under but under normal circumstances it will just work fine less the fee.
 
I believe the change fee is taken out of the credit or applied to the credit when you use the credit/booking to re-book.

Thanks wingspan. I will go ahead and make my booking now. It's just pre-emptive planning in case West Coast beat Carlton this weekend ;). $380 MEL-PER isn't so bad...(not great, but not bad..)

Thanks for others input as well :). Not really fussed when the fee is taken out. (As long as i'm not stung twice of course!)

That is correct - confirmed most recently two weeks ago (the last time I did this).

To the OP, beware as when rebooking you may only see more expensive fare buckets. For example, let's say that your voucher is for $150 and there there are two fares in red e-deal - one at $149 and one at $199.

The main booking system will show you the $149 fare, but when you go to book you will only be able to select the $199 fare.

When I've used red-e credited vouchers I can never make sense of the actual credit value when I attempt to redeem.
Plus the usual fees, I find that more often than not I need to use the phoen service which then incurrs additional fees.
And I can never get the el cheap-o fares dispalyed on the website ... seems to always book into a higher fair bucket.
So for the life of me it always seems like white-mans magic is taking place behind the scenes.
Oh well, the price of booking a red-e class fare I guess.

What ticks me off is when I have to use the phone service because the website can't do something yet am forced to pay the phone service fees.
There is little to no incentive for the service provider to actually enable the wesbite site to imrpove functionality it seems.
