After being educated by all the smart AFFs I have applied for several CCs for myself and husband over the past few years in order to accumulate extra Qantas points. Getting them doesn't seem to be a problem but cancelling them is a nightmare.

I would like ask for some helpful tips on how to cancel a CC with out all the aggressive questions. I cannot get a card cancelled without feeling like I'm being attacked. Even my husband says the same. He tried to cancel his Jetstar M/C last week and after going through 15 mins of interrogation was told the department dealing with this was busy and they would ring back. Of course they haven't so now he has to ring again. Urrrh.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Just tell them to cancel it. When they ask why just say you no longer need it. If they try to talk to you more say "thanks, I'm not interested. Please cancel the card now."

It's pretty hard, but you just need to keep the purpose in the front of your mind - I want to cancel.

I agree with Medhead. Just toughen up and say cancel the card, over and over again. Or send it in writing if you feel you can't do it on the phone. In fact, you could even tell the truth- that you got the points, and the card itself is now a poor value proposition.

My wife recently cancelled her JS card and got the "we'll call you back" appoach. When she called them back they started again and she just told them she wasn't interested in hearing it all again and to cancel the card, which they did.

The banks have to know that many people will get the card just for the bonus points.
