Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone out there has some advice for me? I have booked two return sale flights from Melbourne to Hawaii and we are now unable to go. The problem is that we are relying on out Credit Card Insurance as we always have. SInce booking, my father has become ill (re-occuring illness) and we don't want to leave.

Is there any way anyone knows of to get out of a situation like this? He has been sick for years, so it is not pre-existing - not cancer, but it something fairly major.

Any help would be appreciated. It is too expensive for us to change the dates too, so I am very worried we may have to lose everything.

Thanks for any guidence.

Welcome Carrie14, sorry to hear of your father's illness. Have you contacted your credit card company? They are the best ones to give you advice about your circumstances, especially with what they may class as a pre-existing illness. Or can you name the brand of credit card so that those with experience using that brand can advise the best way to proceed?

By the sounds of it you have booked non-refundable fares, however, it is always worthwhile just rechecking the fare type again to see what options they do offer. There might be some changes you can make that means it is ok for you to use. It might be the case that paying the change fee is more acceptable to you than losing the total value.

Carrie I had a similar situation with my mum who has a pre existing heart condition and I had to cancel a JQ trip to Beijing about 12 months ago. Her cardiologist wrote a letter saying he did not think that I should travel during that time period due to Mums condition. I then forwarded this on via the JQ website and they gave me a voucher for the full amount but had to be re used to any destination within a 6 month period. Luckily we were able to go later and re booked and used that fare towards a MEL-HNL fare. I honestly did not think I would get anything refunded so was happy with that result.

Hi Carrie14, welcome to AFF.

It is sad such a problem bring you to this forum.

What type of Credit Cards was used to book your trips and who did you pay using it?
