Cancelling lounge passes at check-in

Scenario:
Flying in Y.
I have lined up (booked, whatever it is called) a couple of QF lounge passes. All good.

If I rock up to the check-in counter "Hey, any J seats available?". "Oh yes Mr Mizzum, I have upgraded you & Mrs Mizzum to business, that will be xx_ points."

Yay!
But that gives me entry to the business lounge. No need to use the passes I have.

Can I cancel the passes just a few minutes prior to entry?

Am not sure. I activated a pass for a family member who I ultimately guested into the Perth lounge recently and it wouldn't let us go in and un link it online.

They have to be linked at least 24 hours before the flight I think, which implies that at that point it's unreversible. But maybe you if email them they could do something.

Rule is that once passes are linked it can't be reversed. They sometimes make exceptions if the original flight was canceled but chances are very little given you initiated the upgrade.

On this - I recently gave a pass to a friend, who was able to link it at the entrance to the lounge. YMMV of course.

Have never had issues doing so on a handful of occasions as recently as November and then January (on the way to the airport).

Ah ok, the rules must have changed - good to know!
I think your confusion is when the flights are changed by the pass holder more than 24 hours prior to departure.

If you cancel or change your flight then you can "unlink" the pass provided it's more than 24 hours prior to departure. Unlinking the pass if you remain on the same flight (changing your mind that you didn't want to use the pass) isn't possible.

Hmmm, thats what I was afraid of.

Well, that is weird because if I go onto my QFF account and view my lounge invitations there is most definitely a 'cancel' button adjacent to my linked passes. So they clearly can be unlinked.

But really my OP was asking if I could do that cancellation just a few minutes prior. I suspect @opusman has answered although the use of the word "think" still isn't definitive. I'd call QF and ask but can't trust them to give me a straight or conclusive answer.

Hang on...just found this in the T & C:
4.3 Invitations will become invalid and will be forfeited:

(a) when an Eligible Customer changes or cancels an Eligible Flight within 24 hours of scheduled departure;

Now if I get an upgrade I really haven't changed or cancelled the flight. My seat has changed sure, but the flight? No.
I guess on that stupidly rare event that I might get an upgrade, I could always ask the friendly face behind the counter to possibly unlink the pass.
