Hey all,

I've got some Red e-deal QF flights booked for March: MEL-ADL-PER then PER-ADL-MEL. I'd now like to change to come back via Sydney (ie PER-SYD-MEL). I know that cancelling flights online and re-booking them doesn't incur a fee, so I want to use that Option if possible.

I know I can't re-book on the same dates if I cancel, but there's nowhere that tells me if that applies to only one or both legs? U want to keep the original MEL-ADL-PER the same date, go PER-SYD a day earlier than my original PER-ADL-MEL and then SYD-MEL a few days after that. If I cancel and re-book online will that be accepted? Or do I have to go through telephone sales (which is double annoying because I'm overseas now) and incur the $50 change and $40 telephone person fee?

Thanks guys,

Liam.

You can generally rebook on the same dates if you cancel.

Cancelling will give a credit. Rebooking with this credit can be any ex/intra Oz one way or return travel. Note a rebooking Fee WILL be charged for this.

The net cost of rebooking must be same as or more than the cost of the original booking.

If you telephone to rebook an additional telephone booking fee will be charged.

Here's the conditions when creating such a credit "voucher".
Voucher Conditions

  • Valid for 12 months from the original booking creation date.
  • If not used within the 12 month validity period, the voucher value will be forfeited unless the original fare permits a refund.
  • Can only be used towards one way or return bookings for travel from or within Australia. Multi-city bookings are not permitted.
  • Are non-transferable. Name changes are not permitted.
  • Can be redeemed for any Qantas operated flight at qantas.com/yourbooking.
  • Any Change fees that were applicable to the original booking apply when redeeming the voucher.
  • Can only be used towards a fare of equal or higher value.
  • A Service fee will apply for vouchers redeemed through Qantas Telephone Sales.
Given that, I don't think you are going to be able to do this easily.

Assuming the MEL-ADL-PER is a separate booking to PER-ADL-MEL it's the latter you would need to cancel.

You may be able to use this credit for PER-SYD* and book a new SYD-MEL.

* (as long as the cost for PER-SYD plus "change fee" is not less than the cost of PER-ADL-MEL)

Bugger. You can't use the voucher booking system for multi-city bookings. Oh well.

Qantas just got an extra $40 out of me. Unlucky.

Thanks serfty :)

That's what I thought too! Seems I was wrong - you CAN book multi-city flights with a voucher - just not online. I redeemed a voucher from last year (due to expire this week) for a flight later this year MEL-LAX-JFK Xthen JFK-LAS stopover for a week and a half then LAX-MEL. I was also able to book MEL-LAX-JFK and returning SFO-SYD-MEL if I'd wanted.
Handy to know even though the T&Cs state that Multi City bookings are not allowed - it only refers to online.
You still have to pay the $80 service fee for doing an operator assisted call (I asked but they said there online services are limited in functionality - grrrrrrrr!)
