cancelling/reversing velocity miles

After travelling with my partner who is a skywards member (I’m a velocity member) on a number of Emirates flights recently I’ve decided to jump ship and join Skywards – I always fly with Emirates and the services/benefits/upgrade chances far outweigh those offered to Velocity members. I witnessed this firsthand on a number of long-haul flights, much to my dismay.

My question relates to the cancelling of points earned to my Velocity account from miles travelled with emirates.

Skywards have confirmed that I can open an account and attribute miles back-dated to a maximum of 60-days. To do this they will require confirmation in writing from velocity that these accrued points have been reversed/cancelled. Technically this is not a transfer of points from one rewards scheme to another.

I was told by Velocity that in the terms of conditions of membership that earned points cannot be cancelled from an account – I have subsequently consulted the terms and conditions on their website and cannot find any reference to this. Seems odd as the terms and conditions contain multiple references to reversing and cancelling points for various reasons so it is obviously something the system has the capacity to do.

If anyone has been through this process with velocity any advice on this subject would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Welcome to AFF, what you are trying to do is in fact clearly against the programs terms and conditions:

4.6.If you are also a member of any other airline, car rental or hotel program then you may only earn Points and/or Status Credits in one program for any flight, car rental or hotel stay unless specified otherwise by VRPL. We will not allocate Points and/or Status Credits which are also the subject of credits in such other program and we will not allow Points to be transferred to or replaced with credits in another program.

I was also looking at clause 4.6. I suspect that the intent of the clause is to prevent double dipping, but the wording does allow VR to refuse the reversal.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback.

I agree the intent is to prevent double dipping/interchanging between programs, but technically all I am asking is that the points I've recently earned on an Emirates flight be cancelled from my Velocity account. Currently I am not a member of any other reward program nor am I requesting points be transferred to or replaced with credits in another reward scheme.

I don't see how they can cite this clause to refuse my request.

Forget about the double dipping, "we will not allow Points to be transferred to ...another program" pretty much says it all, and even goes as far as to say credit instead of points if the scheme uses other than points.

I have no experience with Velocity, but from many reports about other airline FF programs the only time I have seen postings reversed is when it can be shown that the points/miles posted incorrectly against the passengers direction at the time the travel was undertaken. Changing you mind later is unlikely to be sufficient reason for the points to be reversed.

cheers Markis10 and thanks for the welcome!

I'm not asking for the points to be transferred, in fact i'm not even a member of any other program to which the points or credits could be transferred too. I'm only asking for the points I earned with the recent travel to be cancelled from my velocity account. My reading of the terms and conditions is that there are no clauses which specifically address this procedure.

ps. i'm not trying to argue with you, just trying to figure the best strategy for approaching Velocity on this issue (though from the sounds of it my chances of success are slim). Your feedback is much appreciated in any case!

No worries, Velocity would see the credit created by your activity as being transferred to another program, in this case Skywards, once it has been credited then any subsequent activity with the value of that credit is effectively a transfer in their eyes.

in reality, yes, there would be no other reasonable motive for the request so I definitely see your reasoning.

I'm killing the account anyway and i suppose its wishful thinking that they'd be helpful in reversing recent travel so i could credit it somewhere else.
