I've got a classic award booking in a couple of weeks BNE-SYD and MEL-SYD-BNE, for me and my wife.

I want to change the outbound flight to the day before, but I don't have a "Change" button when I look at the booking under "My Bookings" on the Qantas website.

However, my booking for next weekend BNE-CBR-BNE, also a classic award booking, does have the "Change" button.

The only reasons I can think of why I can't change the booking are:

* Because the booking is for myself and my wife, or
* QF know I'm doing a JQ35 run ;)

Does anyone now why I can't change the booking online? I really don't want to have to pay 4,000 points, per person, to do an over the phone change (on top of the 3,500 points per person change fee).

hmmm, seems as though I might have found the answer:

Manage Your Booking | Change Qantas Flights

Seems that you can change a domestic (paid) multi-city booking online, but not an award redemption multi-city booking. How stupid is that. So lesson learned, next time book the outbound and return as two separate bookings. What a joke.

Would I be right in assuming that I am going to have to pay the 4,000 "assistance fee", even though there is no way that I can make the change online?

If you can't make the changes online then there should be no reason for Qantas to charge you an "assistance fee" you are assisting them in telling them that part of their online software hasn't been tested properly.

You can only politely ask.

Yep that's the approach I'll take when I call them later today.

Hope they waive the assistance fee but it may be pot luck.

Perhaps play dumb and point out there seems to be an error on your booking as no change button is showing. If they can kindly fix this do you can change your booking online....
