We are planning on a short driving holiday out of Adelaide in May 2021. Wondering if anyone has good/bad experiences of hiring vehicles in Adelaide that they would like to share. Just the 2 of us-not sure yet whether to hire a car or opt for a motorhome instead.
Also open to suggestions for a 2 week itinerary-thinking of seeing some of the Southern Flinders Ranges again but not heading too far north.

May is a good time to visit any part of SA. What are your interests? Do you like fishing for example, in which case places like Port Hughes and the Yorke Peninsula are fabulous. Wine? Then Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, and the Coonawarra are excellent. If thinking of going to Southern Flinders Ranges then ditch the motor home and hire a car as the motor home just won't work on the rough roads. We went glamping in tents (TR in my sig). You may need to know that mobile phone coverage is awful in the Flinders other than occasional Telstra connects, but the scenery is spectacular. It will be greening up by then. So let us know what you would like to see and we can go from there.

Thanks for the replies. We have been through the Flinders before as part of a trip from Adelaide to Darwin. We don't intend to go any further north than Wilpena Pound & our initial enquiries have indicated that a motorhome is possible. Not worried about phone service. Rough plan at this stage is to head towards Wilpena (maybe via Port Augusta) then back south vaguely towards Murray Bridge area. We are not chasing particular interests but we both drink and are just looking to take in the scenery.

Sounds good. You could maybe combine Barossa or Clare valley with your plan.

I've done Adelaide to Alice Springs via Coopy Pedy and The Oodnata Track, highly recommended to do the track. Used a rental Pajero 4x4

We have done a little more planning/multiple changes of mind. Have locked in the hire of a motorhome. Latest thoughts (keen to limit the driving time each day & not run ourselves into the ground) are the following. Would appreciate any insights of things to see in this general area.
Adelaide-Melrose- Wilpena Pound- Warren Gorge-Streaky Bay-Coffin Bay-Port Lincoln-Cowell-Wallaroo-Adelaide. We are keen walkers with reasonable fitness. Food wise we are more into pub type eating than restaurants

I think that would be the absolute limit of how far you would want to go. If you don't have to book your accommodation each night I would wait until you've had your time in the Flinders and decide whether to skip Streaky Bay or not. You could easily spend 4-5 days just in the mid North and Flinders especially if you like walking.
