Hi all,

I'm flying in to OOL on the last flight from Melbourne, with a scheduled landing time of 22:15 .

It seems that Europcar and Hertz both close at 22:30, thus making pickup tight if not impossible.

With all that said:

  • Do both of these places really close at 22:30?
  • Are there any options for those landing between 22:15 and 23:00 that need a hire car?

Thanks to all who respond.

Ring your selected rental co and explain - they will probably wait for you and go straight to the counter before you collect
your luggage.

Booking on line also has a place to enter your flight number, which they claim they'll monitor and hold the vehicle for you. Europcar CNS int. is an example though, of their attitude toward that. I have a regular flight into there which lands at 5.30pm on a Friday afternoon. The Europcar counter is always closed and they expect me to walk with luggage to the domestic terminal because only one person is rostered on at that time and cannot be in two places at once. 5.30pm on a Friday afternoon! I'd have thought that would be about peak of the peak hours for a predominantly tourist town and to roster on one person (who is run off their feet, as the few times I've tried it, I arrive at the dom counter only to find my booking is not ready due to the fact the sole staff member is racing to make ends meet) sort of indicates to me that they don't want my business. I now just catch a taxi (which works out about the same cost, but more convenient). I'm not sure when you are flying (flown?) but think about a taxi that evening and pick up the hire car next morning. Europcar have an outlet in Surfers as well as the airport. Hertz is not quite as convenient as they're on Ferry Rd which would require a taxi to get there (most likely, depending upon where you stay).
