Hello,

Just seeking your advice and previous experience;
Have you hired a rental car through an agency's foreign (non Australian) website/domain?

I am looking at booking a rental car for an upcoming trip to the USA.
Avis' UK website currently has a sale promotion which is resulting in a much cheaper price than what Avis' AU and US websites are offering.

Save up to 20% in the Avis New Year Sale

The UK website does not seem to ask for your nationality when booking, as compared to the AU and US versions of their website.

I have received mixed advice as to whether or not is it acceptable to book through the UK website.
Some say they haven't experienced any problems and others say booking through that website could be a risk for legal reasons.

Should I book the cheap deal on the UK website, or play it safe and book through the Australian website?

Cheers

I have previously used a UK website to book a US rental car with Alamo a few years ago and didn't have any issues when collecting the vehicle.

As with everything, at your own risk.

Thank you for your reply.

Please excuse my further ignorance with this follow up question:
Is there an implied 'risk' even when hiring from the AU website (as an Australian resident), or is the potential risk only there when hiring from a foreign website?

Cheers

Yes Europcar.co.uk gave me a cheaper price than Europcar.com.au for a USA car hire.

Dont worry about it. As long as the Hire agreement doesnt assume you are a USA Resident for the insurance stuff, it doenst matter whether they think you are from Australia, UK, or Krakozhia.
