Cathay booking - Earn QFF points?

Hi there,

I recently flew from Sydney to Taipei using Cathay, and entered me and my partner Qff frequent number on the Cathay website.

Do I still earn QFF Points and status credit for this trip?

I tried reading online, apparently Cathay flights only, despite one world, do not earn QFF points.

Thank you

It depends on the fare class booked.

Cathay prices their fares in the same class code despite calling it lite, essential or flex.
For it, to enter Qantas points or SC, they need to be in these fare codes.

A L flex fare booked on Cathay will still only earn under discount economy for Qantas SC purposes. At the same time, a Y lite fare, will earn as flex economy.

The problem is Cathay website may not always have these fare codes available to book as they only list the cheapest options.
I usually contact them on Whatsapp and give them the flight and fare code I want to book in.

Bare in mind, the SC earn on flights between HK and AU are quite tiny! (15 on discount economy)

I'm having similar problems at the moment - I was on a QF ticket and the last leg of the ticket was on CX from HKG to PVG - nowhere on the ticket does it say the fare code - just that it was Economy Saver... and no points or SC's have come through.

Recommend this article for a bit of a more comprehensive guide - in short, flying QF oneworld but non-JV partners on routes where QF operates, you're gonna get stiffed:

Its sounding like I am going to have to ring Qantas to find out the fare class for the Cathay flights on the Qantas ticket...

Is it a QF codeshare? If so, then it'd earn at the normal QF saver rate for that distance bracket. If a CX flight number, I daresay it won't earn (just a guess, but reasonably educated).

CX flight number on a QF ticket (was QF up to HKG then CX from HKG to PVG so QF chose the fare class).

Ive had a few looks on QBR (which does show booking class) discount economy sale (and saver often) QF > CX connection has the CX in a non earning booking class.

OK cheers - sounds like I'm probably not going to get anything from my missing points claim then - that's pretty disappointing seeing as CX are a OneWorld partner. I have very promtly received the points for one of my MU domestic flights, but not yet from the MU flight a few days before.

This is unfortunately the way that earn categories are going, with less fare codes which are eligible for less status credits.

On the flip side, if the status credits don’t matter then it may be worth it to simply book discount fares directly on another airline, usually for cheaper than QF.

QF could have booked me on MU instead of CX - might have at least gotten some points from it.

If anybody wants an exercise in frustration trying putting the airport in Jinan (TNA) into the Qantas missing points form thingy - someone somewhere hasn't written the code properly and so it will let you enter the word Jinan but it won't recognise it as the departure point and so keeps throwing an error when you submit it. Hopefully the points might credit automatically otherwise it will be yet another phone call.

A quick update - just received emails x2 from QFF saying that my claims for my connecting flights on Cathay from HKG to PVG and then back to HKG have been denied as "the partner denied the claim". So it seems that even when booking say MEL-HKG-PVG on the QF website you won't get anything for the CX leg up to Shanghai - so better off selecting a MU flight if you can - will at least get points then.

What was the fare booking class (a letter)?
