On Wednesday 1st, I am flying SYD-SFO. Two tickets (self, husband) were booked on Frequent Flyer points and 2 paid (kids). This was done 12 months ago. In about Oct last year, I rang Qantas to reserve seats, which I did, in row 53, the 4 middle seats.

Then about 2 weeks ago, when I got the documents for kids from the travel agent, I saw that the kids seats were listed as row 68. I then checked our FF bookings and my husband and I were sitting in different rows from each other and from the kids! I rang Qantas to be told that my travel agent had changed our seats and there was nothing they could do. This proved to be untrue. Rang Qantas again and was told that the aircraft had been changed and therefore all seats were jumbled. The lady was nice and empathised with our daughter's anxiety re. flying and said she would see what shee could do. Later that night, we saw that our seats had been reallocated to rows 38 (1 seat) and row 39 (3 seats). Called Qantas again the next day and were told that we had been moved to Premium Economy but could not all be seated in a row of 4. We accepted this, gratefully.

Last night we went to print out our e-tickets to find that we have been moved again! This time to rows 59 and 60 - again not seated together!! Again rang Qantas, who were very unhelpful and said that seats were requested but never confirmed... in other words, bad luck.

What can we do? I feel as if we have been bounced around unfairly. All we want is to sit together in a row of 4, somewhere near the front of the plane, as originally requested! Also, my husband is a Gold Frequent Flyer.

Any ideas?!?!

Seat requests are just that, requests and are never guaranteed in advance

Normally they tend to be ok but they can be lost/moved and there is no grounds for complaint; status is irrelevent

If there isnt, then for now, select seats which are best for you at the moment

If there are 4 seats together unallocated, then you can request them, otherwise when you check in for your flight, try again and see if they can manage it

Regardless of the outcome of your request, I would suggest checking in as early as possible. (Flight should open for check-in about three hours before departure.)

Agreed with the notion of checking in as early as possible. This will give you the greatest chance of getting seats together, if they havent already been allocated.
